Cobalt dichloride

Furthermore, the EU regularly produces and regularly updates the list of substances of high concern, i.e. the SVHC list. The identification of a substance as a SVHC and its inclusion in the candidate list is the first step of the authorization procedure. The European Chemical Agency in Helsinki identifies from the candidate list priority substances to be included in Annex XIV of REACH (the authorisation list). The substances on the candidate list will most probably be liable to stricter regulation in the future (authorisation/banning) which will stimulate the substitution of these chemicals. Currently in June 2012, there are 84 substances included in the candidate list. Examples of chemicals on the candidate list which may be relevant for the leather industry are phenolphthalein, boric acid, cobalt dichloride, dichromate (although not used by leather industry), phthalates (DEHP, DBP and BBP), acrylamide and short-chain chlorinated paraffins. [Pg.251]

Introduction of trimethylsilyl substituents attached directly to the ot-carbon atom of a-(benzotriazol-l-yl)alkyl thioethers provide new opportunities. Thus, treatment of lithiated monosubstituted a-(benzotriazol-l-yl)alkyl thioethers with chlorotrimethylsilane produces a-(trimethylsilyl)alkyl thioethers 837. In reactions with hexamethyl-disilathiane and cobalt dichloride, thioethers 837 are converted to thioacylsilanes 838 that can be trapped in a Diels-Alder reaction with 2,3-dimethylbutadiene to form 2-alkyl-4,5-dimethyl-2-trimethylsilyl-3,6-dihydro-27/-thiopyrans 839 (Scheme 133) <2000JOC9206>. [Pg.94]

Both commercial anhydrous cobalt dichloride and anhydrous cobalt dichloride prepared by drying the hydrate under vacuum at 200° have been used successfully. [Pg.113]

A 2-L, four-necked, round-bottomed flask is equipped with a mechanical stirrer, a thermometer, and a gas vent with a nitrogen bubbler to maintain a slight positive nitrogen pressure. The nitrogen-filled flask is charged with 1 L of tetrahydrofuran, 76 mL of pyridine (0.94 mol), and 57.6 g of anhydrous cobalt dichloride (0.44 mol) which has been crushed to a powder. COBALT DICHLORIDE (7646-79-9 7791-13-1, hexahydrate) Cobalt compounds can react with oxidizers, acetylene. Contact with acids or acid fumes can produce highly toxic chloride fumes. Incompatible with metals can cause pitting attack and stress corrosion in austenitic stainless steels. [Pg.344]

The colour of water is determined by a visual comparative method. It is compared with the colour of a solution of dipotassium hexachloroplati-nate(IV) and cobalt dichloride, or with a solution of potassium dichromate and cobaltous sulphate. Results are given in terms of mg of platinum per 1 1 of water. Colour (or its intensity) usually depends on the pH value of water, and therefore, it should be referred to this value. [Pg.296]

When aqueous ammonia is added to a solution of cobalt dichloride, C0CI2, a blue precipitate forms of the corresponding hydroxide, Co(OH)2, which dissolves on the addition of an excess of ammonia to give a solution that immediately begins to absorb oxygen and turn brown. The same reaction (Eq. 2.71) carried out with chromium trichloride or cobalt dichloride with two equivalents of the lithium reagent yields the heterobimetallic species [(thf)2Li(/Li-OCBu3)Cr(OCBu3)]22° or [(thf)3Li(/r-Cl)Co(OCBu3)2], respectively. The reaction represented by Eq. (2.71) has also been used in the preparation of alkoxide derivatives of vanadium(m), chromium(vi), and molybdenum(m) (Eqs 2.72-2.74) ... [Pg.30]
