The base metal-noble metal monolithic NO catalyst (15 wt % wash-coat) was subjected to the equivalent of 40,000 miles of engine dynamometer testing normal operating temperature of the catalyst was 677°-732°C. At the conclusion of the test, the catalyst was cored and sectioned into quarters (see Figure 7) for analysis of the axial and radial distributions of the various contaminants. Contaminant concentrations were determined by x-ray fluorescence, and they are reported as a percentage of the total catalyst weight. Almost all (>90% ) of the poisons (Ca, Zn, Pb, P) present on contaminated catalysts were confined, for... [Pg.102]

With this rapid growth of near-infrared spectroscopic research in the health sciences, it is time for a text such as this. The authors have combined more than 35 years of industrial and university research experience in this volume. The pharmaceutical presentation is arranged in a logical progression theory, instrumentation, physical manipulation (blending, drying, and coating), analysis (both qualitative and quantitative), and finally, validation of the method. The varied mathematics used in NIR, called chemometrics, are only briefly mentioned. Detailed explanations and applications are covered in texts or chapters devoted to the subject [1-4]. [Pg.179]

An FIM may be modified so that the imaged atom chosen for analysis can be positioned over a small aperture in the phosphor-coated screen. If the electric field is raised to a sufficiently high value, material may be removed from the surface by field evaporation. The specimen is subjected to a high-voltage pulse, which causes a number of atoms on the specimen surface to field evaporate as positive ions. Only the atom that was imaged over the aperture (or probe hole ) passes into a time-of-flight mass spectrometer, all the other atoms being blocked off by the screen. The applied... [Pg.6]

Wire coatings. Wiring from detonation devices could be subjected to thermal analysis to determine, by comparison, the origin of the sample. Differences in manufacturing processing can result in lot-to-lot differences in the degree of crosslinking,... [Pg.128]

Imaging studies were done on copolymers prepared by the polymer modification route because of the availability of the precursor polymers of various molecular weights. The protected copolymers were compounded with triphenylsulfonium hexafluoroantimonate (13% w/w) in cyclohexanone. One micron thick films were spin coated on NaCl plates, baked at 140°C for 5 minutes to expel solvent and then subjected to infrared spectroscopic analysis before and after exposure. Exposure to 18 mJ/cm2 at 254 nm caused no change in the infrared spectrum. However, when the films were baked at 140°C for 120 sec. following exposure, deprotection was quantitative based on loss of the characteristic carbonate C = O absorption and... [Pg.202]

Smitz et al. [ 114] subjected to multivariate analysis the retention data of 9 selected test analytes determined on 26 reversed-phase columns. By PCA the columns were grouped in three classes of similar properties. The authors were able to detect the deviation of some columns from the typical trend observed for RP-8, RP-18 or polymer-coated materials. The deviation could be explained in terms of the extreme physicochemical properties of the column. [Pg.531]

The penultimate section covers special subjects chimneys, uses of chemical resistant masonry materials in the nuclear power field, a short discussion of the uses and limitations of hot sprayed sulfur coatings, and the use of chemically resistant materials in the pulp and paper industry. The final section is devoted to the related subjects of inspection and faiiure analysis. [Pg.12]
