Coating film flexibility

In an attempt to combine band-Uke charge carrier motion realized in an -inevitably fragile - crystalline FET structure with structural robustness and flexibility, Sakanoue and Sirringhaus [167] prepared FETs using spin coated films of 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)(TIPS)-pentacene films in contact with a perfluorinated, low dielectric-constant polymer gate electrode. The (linear) hole mobility at room temperature is 0.8 cm /V s with tendency of an apparent band-like negative temperature coefficient of the mobility (d/i/dT < 0). [Pg.49]

Poly(vinyl chloride), also known as PVC, is prepared by radical polymerization to produce material composed of an average of 10,000 to 24,000 monomer units. It is atactic and therefore amorphous, but it has a relatively high Tg because of the large size of its molecules and its polar carbon-chlorine bonds. It is a rigid material and is used to make pipe, panels, and molded objects. About 68% of PVC is used in the building and construction industry. A more flexible form of PVC is produced by adding a plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate. This is used to prepare electric wire coatings, film, and simulated leather or vinyl. ... [Pg.1067]

Control of the EB cured film properties through formulation is the key to meeting specific end use properties. A wide range of hardness and flexibility can be produced by adjustment of crosslink density and glass transition temperature. Studies on the effects of formulation variables on the tensile elongation properties of free films have proven especially valuable in development of coatings for flexible substrates. [Pg.75]

Nitrocellulose-based lacquers often contain a fair amount of short- or medium-oil alkyds to improve flexibility and adhesion. The most commonly used are short-oil nondrying alkyds. Amino resins or urethane resins with residual isocyanate functional groups may be added to cross-link the coating film for improved... [Pg.3321]

The Tg of bulk ethylcellulose is in the range of 129-133 C, and therefore at ambient conditions films of ethylcellulose are substantially brittle. To be used in film coating applications, ethylcellulose requires the addition of pla.sticizer to improve film flexibility and toughness. The Tg of dried latex particles of Aquacoat ECD has been reported to be 89 C (7). The reduced Tg of ethylcellulose particles dried from a pseudolatex is the result of the temporary plasticizing effects of water. Although the Tg of ethylcellulose... [Pg.395]

Laminates of foil, paper and used in milk-type cartons (LDPE) for a variety of foods and drinks. Some HDPE used in extrusion coatings over flexible foil packages either as a glue layer between paper on plastics film and aluminum foil or as a heat-seal layer... [Pg.430]

The properties of vinyl resins, paints, and coatings are chiefly determined by the nature and number of substituents. The substituents influence the crystallization behavior and thus the properties of interest in paint technology such as the softening range, mechanical properties (film flexibility, cold embrittlement tendency, film hardness), the film-forming temperature in dispersions, solubility, and compatibility... [Pg.23]

Plasma treatment of PDMS followed by adsorption of self-assembled silane monolayers has enabled us to controllably modify the surface energy of elastomer surfaces as described in the section on the Johnson, Kendall, and Roberts approach to deriving the surface free energy of solids. A similar treatment of silicon substrates has produced a useful, low—hysteresis model substrate for contact angle study. There are three types of PDMS contact angle substrates usually studied fluids baked or otherwise chemisorbed on solids such as glass or metals cross-linked coatings on flexible substrates, such as paper or plastic film PDMS elastomer surfaces. [Pg.680]
