Coating capacity

For reversible interactions, the linear dynamic range is determined by that portion of the coating-analyte sorption isotherm (discussed in Section 5.4) that lies between the LOD and the saturation limit. For irreversible interactions, the LDR will depend on the sorption/reaction kinetics and the coating capacity. For practical reasons, it is desirable to have the widest LDR possible, although inexpensive microprocessors and associated memory make correction for minor nonlinearities straightforward. For an example of a wide linear dynamic range, refer to Figure 5.13. [Pg.245]

Assemble the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 V, 67, 1 this is self-explanatory. The distilling flask has a capacity of 250 ml. and the beaker contains 150 ml. of 10 per cent, sodium hydroxide solution. All corks must fit well and should be coated with paraflSn wax (by dipping into molten wax, and allowing to drain). Place half of the yield of the dry phenyldiazonium fluoborate in the distilling flask. Heat the solid gently with a small luminous flame at one point near its surface until decomposition begins withdraw the flame and allow the reaction to continue... [Pg.610]

The uniqueness of methyl methacrylate as a plastic component accounts for its industrial use in this capacity, and it far exceeds the combined volume of all of the other methacrylates. In addition to plastics, the various methacrylate polymers also find appHcation in sizable markets as diverse as lubricating oil additives, surface coatings (qv), impregnates, adhesives (qv), binders, sealers (see Sealants), and floor poHshes. It is impossible to segregate the total methacrylate polymer market because many of the polymers produced are copolymers with acrylates and other monomers. The total 1991 production capacity of methyl methacrylate in the United States was estimated at 585,000 t/yr. The worldwide production in 1991 was estimated at about 1,785,000 t/yr (3). [Pg.259]

As with ah thin-film PV technologies, the projected manufacturing costs of a-Si H ahoy PV modules fah rapidly with annual manufacturing volume, ie, MWp /yr. The primary driver of this volume cost reduction is the volume—cost relationship of commercially available thin-film processing equipment. Thin-film coating machines often have capacities equivalent to 3—5 yr, so that manufacturing economies of scale are more fully realized at the... [Pg.472]

Impact and Erosion. Impact involves the rapid appHcation of a substantial load to a relatively small area. Most of the kinetic energy from the impacting object is transformed into strain energy for crack propagation. Impact can produce immediate failure if there is complete penetration of the impacted body or if the impact induces a macrostress in the piece, causing it to deflect and then crack catastrophically. Failure can also occur if erosion reduces the cross section and load-bearing capacity of the component, causes a loss of dimensional tolerance, or causes the loss of a protective coating. Detailed information on impact and erosion is available (49). [Pg.325]
