Climacteric syndrome

G02C F Climacteric syndrome The climacteric syndrome becomes—as the name indicates—more or less pronounced when a woman reaches the climateric period (about 40-45 years of age) with cessation of ovarian function. As a result there is diminished oestrogen and progestogen production and simultaneously increased secretion of gonadotropic hormones. [Pg.86]

Abstract. Nickel and its compounds are widely used in various manufactures such as machine-building plants, galvanic industry, metallurgy and others. The basic chemical factors in the galvanic industry are aerosols of sulfate and chloride of nickel, which concentration in air of the working zone did not exceed the maximum permissible level Influence of solutions on skin is limited by the use of individual protective devices. The analysis of condition of reproductive health of working women exposed to nickel has not revealed any statistical connection between morbidity and exposure to this metal. Prevailing diseases were a climacteric syndrome, hysteroptosis and colpoptosis. Activation humoral immunity and the sensibility to nickel were found in workers exposed to nickel... [Pg.417]

Note that the dried rhizome of Cimicifuga racemosa (British Pharmaceutical Codex, 1934 black cohosh) has been used as a bitter and mild expectorant in the form of a liquid alcoholic extract (1 in 1 dose 0.3-2 mL) and is sold as alternative remedy for the treatment of menopausal syndrome at dose of 40-80 mg/day. The active constituents of black cohosh, and, therefore, the precise molecular mechanism of action involved in the climacteric property of Cimicifuga racemosa, are still unknown. The most recent data suggest that the plant is not estrogenic sensu stricto (126). [Pg.153]

GnRH agonist Very good Climacteric-like symptoms, metabolic syndrome, bone loss IM Short term Very expensive... [Pg.302]

It is very difficult to evaluate any behavioral or emotional effects of these compounds in humans. Although the incidence of pronounced changes in mood, affect, and behavior appears to be low, milder changes are commonly reported, and estrogens are being successfully employed in the therapy of premenstrual tension syndrome, postpartum depression, and climacteric depression. [Pg.908]

Menopause was described clearly in 1899 in an article entitled Epochal Insanities, under the heading Climacteric Insanity. The article described symptoms of menopause and invited physicians to treat it as a syndrome in need of attention. Women in the late nineteenth century were often advised to rest as a way of combating menopausal symptoms. By the early twentieth century, menopause was seen as the death of the woman in the woman. Contemporary research has shown that menopause is not linked to mental illness or the death of the womb. The average woman of 51 can expect several more decades of life, making menopause more a transitional stage of life. [Pg.280]
