Clamp flange

Bolted flanges (ISO-F) for the same nominal widths as above (according to PNEUROP and ISO/TC 112). In special cases bolted flanges having a smaller nominal width are used. Clamp flanges and bolted flanges are In accordance with DIN 28 404. 

The nominal width Is approximately equal to the free Inner diameter of the flange In millimeters greater deviations are exceptions, so the clamp flange DN 63 has an inner diameter of 70 mm. See also Table XI in Section 9). 

The lumped thermal mass equation also describes the heating-up process of flat face or clamp flanges, where the failure mode is, however, the loss of tightness and consequent secondary leak and fire. It should be noted that when the limped thermal mass heat transfer model was used for the calculation of time-to-failure of flanges engulfed by fire, the results agreed well with the full scale tests in Ref 4. 

Other, also demountable, fittings between pipes and installations are of the type clamp, flange or screw fitting.

Top-Entering Impellers For vessels less than 1.8 m (6 ft) in diameter, a clamp- or flange-mounted, angular, off-center fluidfoil impeller with no baffles should be the initial choice for meeting a wide range of process requirements (Fig. 18-14). The vessel straight-side-height-to-diameter ratio should be 0.75 to 1.5, and the volume of stirred liqiiid should not exceed 4 m (about 1000 gal). 

In an 800-ml. stainless-steel flanged beaker are placed 240 g. of potassium hydroxide pellets and 50 ml. of water. When the mush has cooled, 40.0 g. (0.263 mole) of 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-benzoic acid (Note 1) is added, and the slurry is stirred with a long glass rod. The beaker is placed firmly in a clamp (Note 2) and set in a cold oil bath (Note 3) in a hood, and 240 g. (1.00 mole) of lead dioxide is stirred in all at once (Note 4). The oil... 

A convenient clamp can be fashioned by bending a loop at the end of a 40-cm. length of iron rod 6 mm. (j in.) in diameter so that the beaker can just slip up to its flange through the loop. A pinch clamp is used to hold the flange firmly to the loop. 

Example 2.5 In a small polypropylene pump the flange on the cover plate is 2 mm thick. When the rigid clamping screws are tightened, the flange is reduced in thickness by 0.03 mm. Estimate the initial stress in the plastic and the stress after 1 week... 

Installation of propeller-type mixers varies greatly, depending on the specific application. Top-entering mixers utilize either a clamp- or flange-type mounting. It is important that the mixer be installed so the propeller or paddle placement is at a point within the tank, vessel, or piping that assures proper mixing. Vendor recommendations found in O M manuals should be followed to ensure proper operation of the mixer. 

Flanged rigid couplings, split rigid or clamp couplings... 

When the edge of the plate is rigidly clamped, not free to rotate which corresponds to a heavy flange, or a strong joint.

In the first type (ISO-KF), the connections are made with conic profile flanges joined together by clamps, with an elastomer gasket (see Fig. 1.20). 

In the second type (ISO-K), the flanges have a grooved profile, and the connections are realized by claw clamps (see Fig. 1.21). The number of clamps depends on the dimensions of the flange. The standard dimensions for this type of flange are from 63 to 500 mm of internal diameter (DN63-DN500).
