Citations, accuracy

A fact that is not well known, might be disputed, or is controversial should always be accompanied by a footnote, endnote, or parenthetical citation. Similarly, all statistical information should also be documented so that the reader can look up any important material and verify its accuracy. For example, an author of a best-selling biography of President John F. Kennedy might write ...

When one heteroatom is present, the locant 1 is attributed to the heteroatom. In many cases, an indicated hydrogen is necessary to describe the structure with accuracy. The presence of more than one heteroatom of any type is indicated by a multiplicative prefix (di-, tri-, etc.). If two or more kinds of heteroatom occur in the same name, the order of citation is the order of their appearance in descending Table 4.8. The numbering starts from the heteroatom cited first in Table 4.8, giving the lowest possible locants to other heteroatoms. 

Human specimens. In our laboratory, we first developed a good laboratory practice (GLP)-validated procedure for quantification of intact rafAON in control human plasma. The rafAON assay validation endpoints were standard curve, between-run precision and accuracy, within-run precision and accuracy, effects of dilution and freeze thaw, stability of rafAON at -80° C, and 4°C in plasma for various times, specificity, integrity of rafAON during plasma sample collection and processing, and lipid interference. The reader is referred to a previous citation for further details (17,27). 

The accuracy of the references is the author s responsibility. Errors in references are one of the most common errors found in scientific publications and are a source of frustration to readers. Increasingly, hypertext links are automatically generated in Web-based publications, but this cannot be done for references containing errors. If citations are copied from another source, check the original reference for accuracy and appropriate content. 

A second advantage of derivative methods is increased numerical accuracy. This is perhaps less important in the present era of highly accurate computers. Nevertheless, the numerical evaluation of higher energy derivatives is still a difficult problem. Indeed, Hartree (1968) observes that the differentiation of a function specified only by a table of values... is a notoriously unsatisfactory process, partieularly if higher derivatives than the first are required (citation taken from Gerratt and Mills (1968)).
