It is for the user to choose the most appropriate circuit breaker to suit requirements, application and cost. Here we discuss briefly the philosophy of circuit interruption and the effect of insulating and quenching mediums on the arc extinction of these breakers. We also deal briefly with the constructional features and application of such breakers. For more details one may refer to the manufacturers catalogues and literature available on the subject.

In metal-enclosed assemblies, the equipment is contained within a grounded metal enclosure. In metal-clad types, separate compartments are provided for the circuit interrupter, the components connected to one side of the interrupter (e.g. the cable box) and those connected to the other side of the interrupter (e.g. the busbar chamber and the control equipment). 

These enclosures are designed to meet the applicable requirements of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) for Class I Groups A, B, C, or D hazardous locations that may be in effect. In this type of equipment, the circuit interruption occurs in air. 

Check cords on electric models before mowing, and use a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet. 

As indicated in Table 5.1, it takes very little current to cause electrical shock and even loss of life. This is why ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) are required by the NEC for convenience outlets in certain areas of homes or facilities.

A typical spectrum of CO derived from the decomposition of C-enriched methanol on PC platinum black is shown in Fig. 5(A). Fig. 5(B) shows the first electrochemical cycle after methanol decomposition, followed by rinsing, without circuit interruption. The voltammogram is used to determine surface coverage from the CO CO2 oxidation peak at around 400 mV (versus a Ag/AgCl reference electrode, in 1.0 M NaCl). OTHER COMMENTS used in electrical circuit interrupters and in electronic ultra-high frequency piping other uses include fertilizers, chemicals, dyes and pigments, electroplating baths, industrial explosives, nonferrous metallurgy, rayon and film, and iron and steel industry useful as an etchant, and alkylation catalyst, and a lab reagent. 

Wet or damp environments Water can be a good conductor of electricity, hence working with electrical equipment in a wet environment can be a hazardous activity. Electrical equipment should be isolated from moisture. Electrical receptacles in wet or damp environments must be designed for this type of environment, with ground-fault-circuit-interrupter (GFCI) protection. This type of receptacle should be tested periodically in accordance with the manufacturer s recommendations.
