The negative sign designates that the direction of flow occurs spontaneously from the region of higher concentration. The diffusion coefficient D represents the amount of solute that diffuses across a 1 cm area per sec under the influence of a concentration gradient of 1 g/cm. D is characteristic for each type of solute molecule, and its value takes into account both molecular mass and shape. See also Transport Processes Pick s Laws... 

Shift of NMR signis with the addition of the additives. Minus sign designates the shift to an upfield. 

So-called neon signs actually contain a variety of gases. Research the different substances used for these signs. Design your own sign on paper, and identify which gases you would use to achieve the desired color scheme. 

Once the information flowsheet is set up, the determination of the process topology is easy, that is, you can immediately write down the stream interconnections between the modules (or subroutines) that have to be included in the input data set. For Fig. 5.5 the matrix of stream connections (the process matrix) is (a negative sign designates an exit stream)...

Guidelines for warning sign design and measures of the effectiveness should be compatible. In fact, due to ethical constraints and measurement method, very few warning sign have actually been evaluated or tested for efficacy. 

In the notation on the right, the arrow denotes the shift in electron density toward the fluorine atom. The crossed end of the arrow can be thought of as a plus sign designating the positive end of the molecule. 

Manufacturers of identification products have done most of this work for you by developing and stocking an assortment of sign designs, legends and layouts however, there will always be a need for customized identification. If you are looking to create a custom sign, here is a simple example ... 

For example, the National Five Protection Association s Life Safety Code, NFPA 101, may require, among other factors detectors for smoke and products of combustion automatic and manual audible and visible alarms lighted exit signs designated, alternate, properly lit exit paths adequate spacing for personnel at the end of the exit path proper hardware for doors and emergency power systems. Obviously, much more is needed than merely warnings. ... 

Notes. Signs designate qualitatively the practical absence of peak (—) or very slight peak...
