Recombination, chromosomal

Polymorphisms in the human genome are often not independently transmitted i.e., a polymorphism is associated with particular variants present on the same chromosome. Recombination erodes this association, but for physically close polymorphisms (e.g., within a gene), the correlation, known as LD, persists over time. [Pg.690]

Genes may be duplicated or deleted when recombination occurs between two different genes on the two copies of the same chromosome. Recombination can occur between two regions of two different genes with some sequence homology. [Pg.62]

Each type of virus has different attributes, so several classes of animal viruses are being engineered as vectors to transform mammalian cells. Adenoviruses, for example, lack a mechanism for integrating DNA into a chromosome. Recombinant DNA introduced via an adenoviral vector is therefore expressed for only a short time and then destroyed. This can be useful if the objective is transient expression of a gene. [Pg.335]

If the strands that will break are those that were not broken in step 1, resolution of the resulting structure generates two chromosomes recombinant for DNA flanking the region and each containing a heteroduplex region. [Pg.1900]

A total of 113 females and 6 males were analyzed. The former included 3 4n, 102 3n, and 8 2n females. Among the latter, 5 2n males were confirmed as the products of chromosomal recombination. Other experiments, in which genetically marked sex chromosomes were used and X rays and high-tempera-... [Pg.210]
