None of these waxes, including the standard, Staiiolind 170/5, was entirely satisfactory. The addition of graphite to the compns, the use of some mold release compds, and a change to a chromium plated punch did not improve the pelleting characteristics... [Pg.335]

Press platens are made from stainless steel or chromium-plated brass and copper. The chromium layer preserves surface quahty longer than does ordinary steel. The MF laminates exhibit a remarkable set of characteristics. Because of their unusual chemical inertness, nonporosity, and nonabsorbance, they resist most substances, such as mild alkalies and acids, alcohols, solvents such as benzene, mineral spirits, natural oils, and greases. No stains are produced on MF surfaces by these substances. In addition to almost unlimited coloring and decorating possibilities, this remarkable resistance has resulted in the extensive use of MF laminated wood-based panel products for tabletops, sales counters, laboratory benches, heavy-duty work areas in factories and homes, wall paneling, and so on. [Pg.647]

Trivalent chromium plating already has a relatively long history. Some processes have been available commercially. Usually, chromium sulfate or chromium chloride is used as the main component in the bath. A graphite electrode or composite one is used. Some additives are added to the bath to prevent the oxidation of trivalent chromium at the anode. In some cases, the lead anode is used. It is surrounded with walls as a compartment filled with sulfuric acid. It is well-known as a shielded anode. The arrangement is also made to prevent the oxidation of trivalent chromium at the anode. Such a trivalent chromium plating process has already achieved similar characteristics and performances to those of the... [Pg.268]

A characteristic example of the performance of IC/ICP-OES is the spedation of chromium [190,191]. Due to it widespread use in industrial applications such as chromium plating, dye manufacturing, and preservation of wood and leather materials, chromium concentrations in environmental samples are monitored on a routine basis. Both the US EPA and the European Union have specified maximum admissible chromium concentrations in their respective drinking water directives. As with many other trace elements, chromium (Cr) is typically found in more than one chemical form, each of which with different chemical properties and behavior, such as bioavailability and toxicity. The spedation analysis of chromium is a challenging task, since the stability of different chromium species is easily affected by conditions during sample collection and treatment. For... [Pg.854]

Nickel-silvers contain zinc and copper and have a characteristic silvery color and provide an excellent base for chromium or silver plating. They have many uses, including hardware and parts for cameras and musical instruments. [Pg.98]
