Addition versus rearrangement of chloro(methyl)-, chloro(ethyl)-, benzyl(chloro)-, chlo-ro(methoxymethyl)- and chloro(isopropyl)carbene generated by photolytic or thermal decomposition of 3-alkyl-3-chloro-3//-diazirines has also been investigated.81 However, it is known that chloro(isopropyl)- or ie/7-butylchlorocarbene does not undergo addition to 2,3-dimethyl-but-2-ene, which is used as a carbene trap. Photolysis or thermolysis of 3-arylmethyl-3-chloro-3//-diazirines in the presence of an alkene has also been studied extensively.84 Addition of the ambiphilic benzylchlorocarbene82 to an alkene to give 1-benzyl-1-chlorocyclopropanes is usually accompanied by its rearrangement to co-chlorostyrene (1,2-hydride shift, for details see ref 83). This isomerization was seriously impeded when the decomposition of 3-benzyl-3-chloro-3//-diazirines was performed in the presence of an alkene,85 with 2,3-dimethylbut-2-ene only traces of co-chlorostyrene were observed.81,86 The results of reactions of benzylchlorocar-benes with some alkenes are collected in Table 6.85... [Pg.554]

The brownish residue was observed in multiple locations on the ABS / foam interface, on fracture surfaces, and also at several locations on the surface and in the bulk of the polyurethane foam (however, it was noteworthy that most areas of the foam were clear white). Some of this brownish residue was collected from the fracture surfaces using an isopropanol surface wash. The FTIR analysis of the isopropanol residue identified a phosphate ester. In the subsequent GC-MS analysis of this residue, the material was shown to have a very large peak, identified as a tris-(2-chloro isopropyl) phosphate (TCPP). This was the flame retardant that was mixed into the polyurethane foam, prior to its being apphed to the surface of the ABS. [Pg.1967]

The inertness of chlorine in the meta position in Halex reactions is of commercial value. For example, 3,4-dichloronitroben2ene [99-54-7] forms 3-chloro-4-duoronitroben2ene [350-30-1/, which is then reduced to 3-chloro-4-duoroaniline [367-21-5] for incorporation in the herbicide damprop—isopropyl or the duoroquinolone antibacterials, nordoxacin and pedoxacin. [Pg.319]

After drying over sodium sulfate and concentration to vacuum the remaining residue is subjected to chromatography over silica gel. Using a benzene-ethyl acetate mixture (19 1) there is eluated 900 mg of 6-chloro-1,2a-methylene-A -pregnadiene-17o-ol-3,20-dione-17-acetate, which upon recrystallization from isopropyl ether melts at 200° to 201°C. [Pg.423]

A mixture containing 8 g (0.06 mol) of N-methyl-3-chloro-piperidine and 13.6 g (0.06 mol) of benzilic acid in 50 cc of anhydrous isopropyl alcohol was refluxed for 3 days the isopropyl alcohol was removed by distillation in vacuo, the residue treated with dilute aqueous hydrochloric acid and the aqueous acid mixture extracted repeatedly with ether. The aqueous phase was separated, made strongly alkaline with 20% aqueous sodium hydroxide and extracted with ether. The ether extracts were dried with potassium carbonate and distilled the product was collected at 175° to 176°C (0.03 mm), yield 11.5 g (59%). The ester base thus prepared was then dissolved in 75 cc of isopropyl alcohol and 3.4 g (0.037 mol) methyl bromide added. The reaction mixture was allowed to stand at 30°C for 2 days and the product isolated by filtration, yield, 13 g (87%), MP 228° to 229°C dec. [Pg.931]
