Chinese Plastics Manufacturing Organization

There are more than 12 000 state-owned, local government-owned, private and foreign funded producers of plastics and plastic products in China. The majority of them are small companies, which manufacture plastic products. Large state-owned companies dominate the production and supply of plastics materials, heavily influence plastic product design, and indeed fabricate numerous end-use plastic products. Provincial, local municipal or township governments, private entrepreneurs or foreign funded enterprises own the remainder of the companies. [Pg.7]

All of the state- and local government-owned plastic producers are under the guidance of the State Petroleum and Chemical Industry Bureau (part of the State Economic and Trade Commission - SETC). The Bureau controls over 750 large plastic companies throughout the country. China Petrochemical Corp (Sinopec) dominates over 90% of China s petrochemical production and directly controls the country s major petrochemical producers, many of whom are key plastics producers and product manufacturers. [Pg.7]

The Chinese plastics industry is not operating to its full capacity due to an insufficient supply of raw materials and it needs more capacity with China joining the WTO. China s total annual capacity of major plastics resins is 11.1 million tonnes. Polyethylene capacity is 3.4 million tonnes, compared with output of 2.7 million tonnes. Polystyrene capacity is 1 million tonnes per year, with actual production at 0.8 million tonnes. China s acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) capacity is 450 000 tonnes [Pg.8]
