Chilled shot

Injection Molding. Matched metal molds are used in the fabrication of plastic closures, specialty packages, and botde preforms. In conventional injection mol ding the plastic resin is melted in an extmder which forces a measured quantity or shot into a precision-machined chilled mold after which the nozzle of the extmder is withdrawn. [Pg.453]

Shot or grit blasting Blasting is used to remove rust and to increase the surface area and hence increase apparent adhesion. A variety of abrasives is available, including chilled iron grit and aluminium oxide. The selected abrasive is fired under pressure at the metalwork to create the desired result. [Pg.746]

It also raises a quick question. With Memorial Day here and the start of summer holidays hitting the blood like alcohol, who would order a 2-ounce shot and suffer the wait for the next one Ask the bartender to set down a 32-ounce pitcher of the house cocktail— lemon vodka, creme de framboise, fresh grapefruit and raspberries, numb with ice—and decide one leisurely drink later who, or how many, to share it with. Let the pitcher do the sweating, and chill. [Pg.21]

Then the people were driven [...] down the slope of the ravine. [...] where narrow, terrace-like places had already been prepared. [...] From the opposite side came the thunder of machine guns. There, [...] hundreds of Jews were shot. [...] Everything happened so fast, [...] blows [...] dog bites [...]. The people lost their minds, many turned gray with horror. [...] A severe chill and the pain in my headforced me to move, I began to climb up. [...] ... [Pg.508]

In other sulfur recovery operations, better control of product particle size is obtained. The molten sulfur is chilled on a steel belt to produce a roughly 0.5-in.-thick flake sulfur, or sprayed into water or even tumbled in drums to obtain granulated sulfur. Pelletized sulfur, similar in particle size range to the granulated variety, is also obtained when a melt is sprayed into the top of a tower to form droplets of molten sulfur which harden into shot-sized beads as they fall through a current of air. In this form, it is referred to as prills [20]. The narrow size range of particles of prilled sulfur, as well as the negligible dust content in this form, makes it more convenient to use. It normally commands a price premium. [Pg.260]

In use are diflbrent runner systems to meet different processing requirements. The more popular are the cold and hot runners. With a TP cold runner, the melt from the sprue to the gate solidifies by the cooling action of the mold as the melt in the cavity soHdifies. A hot runner for TP has the sprue to the gate insulated from the chilled cavity and remains hot so that the melt never cools its next shot starts from the gate rather than the nozzle as in... [Pg.62]

Two-shot injection molding n. Confusingly, this term has been used in the literature for two processes that are distinctly different. One is described under double-shot molding. In the other process, one first injects a metered amount of one material into a single-cavity mold. As this material just begins to chill against the cold mold surfaces, a second material is injected. This fills the interior and forces the first material outward to the cavity surfaces. The second polymer, usually a reclaimed material forms the interior of the finished article, while the virgin material first injected forms the outer shell and surface of the article. [Pg.1018]

Chilled iron shot or grit can be used for the removal of rust, mill scale, heat treatment scale, and old paint from forged, cast, and rolled steel. This abrasive breaks down gradually against steel substrates, so continual sieving to retain only the large particle sizes may be needed if a rough surface profile is desired in the cleaned surface. [Pg.69]

The choice of grit type (fused alumina, silica, quartz, chill-cast iron shot or silicon carbide) will be dependent on the substrate to be abraded. For example. [Pg.167]
