Chemotactic property

Not more than 20 years ago, a limited number of laboratories around the world were attempting to investigate a small peptide mediator that seemed to have neutrophil chemotactic properties and was thought to be involved in regulation of inflammatory responses. This molecule was identified and... [Pg.1]

Colchicine suppresses chemotactic properties in leukocytes and inhibits the inflammation reaction. Colchicine is easily absorbed from the intestinal tract and 40% is excreted in the urine within 40 hours. There is risk of accumulation on repeated administration. [Pg.102]

Sequence analysis of the 145 kh KSHV genome revealed one ORF, ORF74, with the hallmark of a chemokine receptor and three ORFs, K6, K4 and K4.1, encoding the chemokines vCCLl, vCCL2 and vCd.3 respectively. vCCL2 is unique in the chemokine system because it binds to and antagonizes receptors from all of the four chemokine receptor subfamilies (CC, CXC, XC and Besides having sprecific pro- and/or anti- chemotactic properties, all... [Pg.35]

Chemokines are chemotactic cytokines that induce directional sensing and motile responses (defined as chemotaxis) in cells expressing the corresponding chemokine receptors. Chemokines are small (approx. lOkDa), mostly secreted proteins that were initially implicated in the regulation ofblood cell trafficking during host defense and immune responses initiated by pathogens. The first molecule with chemotactic properties (IL-8) was identified in 1987 [1] and since then the chemokine family has expanded rapidly to its current size. The family now consists in humans of 53 chemokines and 23 chemokine receptors (for an overview, seehttp //cytokine.medic. kumamoto-u.ac.jp/CFC/CK/Chemokine.html) [2]. [Pg.151]
