Electron transfer (ET) reactions, which are also called oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions, form the simplest class of chemical reactions. Experimental and theoretical work in this field has distinguished two types of mechanism, called inner-sphere and outer-sphere. In inner-sphere reactions there is strong interaction in the transition state and a bridging group normally connects the two reactant centres the bridging ion or molecule may or may not be transferred during the reaction. [Pg.509]

Mass-transfer rates have been determined by measuring the absorption rate of a pure gas or of a component of a gas mixture as a function of the several operating variables involved.
