An overview is provided of ongoing risk assessments on halogenated phosphate ester flame retardants in Europe. On the basis of the so-called second and fourth Priority lists on Existing Chemicals (Council Regulation No793/93) three chlorinated phosphate ester flame retardants are selected. The selection is based on their hazard profile, volume and use pattern. The three substances involved are TCPP, TDCP and TCEP (Antiblaze V6 from Albemarle is also involved but, due to confidentiality, is not discussed. An outline is provided from a European point of view on topics such as methodology of risk analyses, data-gaps and worst case approach, industry involvement, downstream participation and possible impact of final report on industry. 2 refs. [Pg.35]

So, what are the conclusions looking at established management system audit results such as ISO 14001, new approaches, and even the inclusion of security as part of the recent certification audits to the American Chemical Council s (ACC) Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and RC14001 Technical Specifications ... [Pg.279]

In the absence of effective outside supervision, the chemical industry understood that responsibility for control of its pollution now fell primarily on its own shoulders. In April 1954, it marked the twin themes of its rapid postwar expansion and its assumption of the burden of environmental protection by convening a Southern Industrial Wastes Conference in Houston. The newly formed Texas Chemical Council and the Southern Association of Science and Industry joined the Manufacturing Chemists Association as sponsors of this gathering. Some 250 pollution specialists, almost all of them chemical company employees, were in attendance. [Pg.168]

The Boustead report is comprehensive in its evaluation of the LCAs of paper and plastic bags. The Boustead report was funded by the American Chemical Council Plastics Division. The Boustead report compares LCAs of 1500 plastic bags with 1000 paper bags and 1000 compostable plastic bags. The 1.5 1 ratio was determined from a Franklin report from 1990, which pointed out that consumer bagging behavior illustrates that plastic-to-paper use ranged from 1 1 all the way to 3 1, depending on the situation (Council for Solid Waste Solutions 1990). The information for... [Pg.160]

The American Chemical Council has developed CAB (a Chemical Activity Barometer -see www.americanchemistry.com/CAB). This is an economic indicator that predicts peaks and troughs in the overall economy in the USA and highlights trends in a range of industries using a number of different criteria. The website gives an insight into the importance of chemistry to the global economy. [Pg.582]

The Chemical Council is a body which was established in 1935 by the Chemical Society, the Royal Institute of Chemistry and the Society of Chemical Industry, with representatives from the Association of British Chemical Manufacturers, the Faraday Society, the Society for Analytical Chemistry and the Biochemical Society. It acts as trustees for various funds contributed by industry which are used for subsidies to the constituent societies to meet deficits in the costs of their publications, to assist in the publication of abstracts, and to support the maintenance of the library of the Chemical Society. [Pg.175]
