It has been required to take into account the feedback of experience related to the mechanical problem of isolated safety injection lines when small leaks through the isolation valves may occur ( Farley-Tihange problem responsible for several small breaks on the safety injection piping). Implementation of on-line temperature and pressure measurements will allow to identify any small leak through the isolation valve to the primary circuit and the dedicated corrective actions can be taken to evacuate the leak to the Chemical and Volume Control System. ... [Pg.177]

The charging pumps and letdown control valves in the chemical and volume control system (CVCS) are used to maintain a programmed pressurizer water level. A continuous but variable letdown purification flow is maintained to keep the RCS chemistry within prescribed limits. A charging nozzle and a letdown nozzle are provided on the reactor coolant piping for this operation. The charging flow is also used to alter the boron concentration or correct the chemical content of the reactor coolant. [Pg.24]

Consistent vrith current practice, active systems are used as first defense level against more probable events. These systems "termed as non-safety systems" establish and m ntain safe shutdown conditions. This requires at least one non-safety AC power source to be available. These systems include the Chemical and Volume Control System (CVCS), the Startup Feed Water System (SFWS), the Normal Heat Removal System (RNS), Spent Fuel pit cooling System (SFS), and the Diverse Actuation System (DAS). The later provides the defense in depth function of system actuation to back up the Safety Monitoring System (PMS) and to protect against common mode failure. [Pg.72]
