The rule base contains all the information required to relate the inputs and outputs. In this case, the independent variables of the membership functions of input and output are different, so the result will be two dimensional. Hence the minimum of the input and the output membership function is performed as per the fuzzy if-then rules. Subsequently, the inference engine operates with the min-max operator to generate the output responses.
