Cellulose acetate butyrate solvent release

Other. 2-Nitro-1-butanol is an excellent solvent for many polyamide resins, cellulose acetate butyrate, and ethylceUulose. It can be utilized in paint removers for epoxy-based coatings. 2-Hydroxymethyl-2-nitro-l,3-propanediol is usebil for control of odors in chemical toilets. Its slow release of formaldehyde ensures prolonged action to control odor, and there is no reodorant problem which sometimes is associated with the use of free formaldehyde. 2-Hydroxymethyl-2-nitro-l,3-propanediol solutions are effective preservative and embalming fluids. The slow Uberation of formaldehyde permits thorough penetration of the tissues before hardening. [Pg.62]

Cellulose acetate butyrate is insoluble in water and is available in several viscosity grades depending on their molecular weight. This pol)nner has been used to obtain sustained-release matrices prepared by direct compression technique as well as in obtaining semi-permeable membranes for osmotic pump systems [16]. Cellulose acetate butyrate microparticles (Figure 19.3) for the sustained release of drugs can be obtained by the emulsion-solvent evaporation method [17]. [Pg.563]

Cellulose acetate butyrate is used in a wide variety of coatings for wood because they provide many desirable properties (fast solvent release, flowout, and leveling excellent spray characteristics, nonyellowing, and cold crack resistance). [Pg.18]

Materials such as metal, plastic, wood, paper, and leather are coated with pofymers primarily for protection and for the improvement of their properties. For this purpose, cellulose acetate (CA), cellulose acetate propionate (CAP), and cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) are the most important classical and solvent-based cellulose esters of the coating industry [44]. Cellulose esters are widely used in composites and laminates as binder, filler, and laminate %ers. In combination with natural fibres, they can be used to some extent as composites from sustainable raw materials with good biodegradability. An additional domain of cellulose esters is their use in controlled-release systems, as well as membranes and other separation media [44, 47]. In the field of controlled-release systems, eellulose esters are used as enteric coatings, hydro-phobic matrices, and semipermeable membranes for appheations in pharmacy, agriculture, and cosmetics. [Pg.48]
