Equation (2-14) provides a way to calculate the liquid temperature in equilibrium with the ready-to-grow bubble if the saturation pressure or temperature, the value of B, and the cavity radius are known (Shai, 1967). Several modified versions of nucleation criteria have since been advanced. An example is the model proposed by Lorenta et al. (1974), which takes into account both the geometric shape of the cavity and the wettability of the surface (in terms of contact angle < >). Consider an idealized conical cavity with apex angle ip, and a liquid with a flat front penetrating into it (Fig. 2.3a). A familiar military use of this principle is the 3.5 inch antitank rocket, or bazooka round. The explosive charge in the head of the rocket has a conical cavity in the forward end. When the charge is detonated against the side of a tank, the shock waves emerging from the conical cavity are focused on one spot where they will penetrate several inches of tough steel.

Abstract. Casimir energy calculations are presented for the massless scalar field for pyramidal and conical wedges and cavities. 

In the coming sections we present the Casimir energy calculations for a pyramidal wedge and then for a pyramidal cavity and a conical cavity. We give the details for the former one, and for the conical cavity we simply present the results.

If on the other hand we compare the three positive results of equal volume, we observe that the energy for the pyramidal and conical cavities are about half of the sphere of equal volume... 

The above results can be qualitatively understood. In spherical cavity, the semi classical paths can bounce back from any point of the wall. However a path ending for example at the summit of the conical cavity has no direction to be reflected back. Thus one can speculate that the configuration space available for a field in the conical cavity is less than the spherical cavity.

The large molecule consists of a single peptide chain 35% P-sheet and 20% helical structure are found in the folded stmcture. The active site is a 1.2 nm deep conical cavity in the central pleated sheet, with a ion located at its bottom. Three histidine residues hold the Zn +, which also binds an HjO molecule. The active-site cavity is divided into hydrophilic and hydrophobic halves. Measuring Vulcanization. The formation of a three-dimensional structure during vulcanization increases the stiffness (modulus) of the compound. Therefore, following the modulus increase versus cure time provides a continuous picture of the vulcanization process. Oscillating disk rheometers provide a useful method to do this (17). In this test, a preweighed sample of uncured mbber is placed into a preheated cavity containing a conical rotor. The cavity is closed and the rotor is set to oscillate within the mbber sample. As vulcanization proceeds, the compound s resistance to rotor movement increases and this resistance is followed as a function of time, thereby generating a continuous profile of cure behavior.
