Caustic soda and hydrogen peroxide

Perborate of sodium, NaBOg,4H20, is similarly prepared, or it may be produced by cooling a solution of borax to which some caustic soda and hydrogen peroxide have been added. It, too, is a sparingly soluble salt, possessing bleaching properties. [Pg.168]

Experiments have shown that the best construction material for the storage of hydrogen peroxide is high purity (99.6%) aluminium. Aluminium containers should be thoroughly cleaned to remove any traces of organic impurities, and washed first with a solution of caustic soda and then with water and 10% sulphuric acid, over a period of several hours. Finally the acid is washed out with distilled water, after which it is desirable to re-wash the container with hydrogen peroxide. Tanks and containers for hydrogen peroxide should be provided with safety valves, that are ruptured by the excessive pressure produced if the peroxide decomposes. [Pg.301]

Sodium Pemiobate, Na3Nb08, is obtained as a white powder by the action of caustic soda and 3 per cent, hydrogen peroxide on 7 6 sodium niobate. [Pg.168]

A plant lay-out scheme for caustic soda scouring and hydrogen peroxide bleaching is shown in Fig. 10.9(Skelly, 7.5.Z).C., 1956,72,9). The cloth... [Pg.244]

Mannig and Scherer [225] have discussed the role of hydrogen peroxide in the chlor-alkali industry, including its use in brine dechlorination. They cover handling of the peroxide, certain other applications such as the decolorizing of caustic soda, and the requirements of a dechlorination system. In particular, they comment on process control this is the subject of the following subsection. [Pg.683]

Sodium chlorite, NaC102, [7758-19-2] is industrially produced by treating CIO2 with caustic soda and the simultaneous reduction of the formed chlorate to chlorite, for example using hydrogen peroxide... [Pg.172]

Before dyeing in light or bright shades, the goods should be bleached with hydrogen peroxide and caustic soda to bleach the motes. This operation also helps in the removal of trace impurities that remain after boil-off. [Pg.520]

Colloidal palladium eatalytically assists the decomposition of aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide, oxygen being evolved. The reaction is monomolecular, and the influence of as minute a quantity of palladium as one gram atom in 26,000,000 litres of solution can be detected with N/60NaOH and N/10H2O2 solution.2 The reaction is accelerated by the presence of caustic soda, the optimum concentration of which is about N/16. In acid solution the peroxide decomposes very slowly. [Pg.185]
