Cascade plate

Diagram showing a flow of ions of m/z a, b, c, etc. traveling in bunches toward the front face of a microchannel array. After each ion strikes the inside of any one microchannel, a cascade of electrons is produced and moves toward the back end of the microchannel, where they are collected on a metal plate. This flow of electrons from the microchannel plate constitutes the current produced by the incoming ions (often called the ion current but actually a flow of electrons). The ion.s of m/z a, b, c, etc. are separated in time and reach the front of the microchannel collector array one set after another. The time at which the resulting electron current flows is proportional to V m/z). [Pg.198]

As shown above, when an ion arrives at the microchannel array it releases a cascade of electrons onto the back plate. This cascade constitutes an electrical pulse from the microchannel plate, which... [Pg.221]

A modern sulfochlorination is run continuously (Fig. 7). To limit the formation of di- and polysulfochlorides (Fig. 8) up to eight reactors are connected in a cascade. For a 25% alkane conversion, a residence time of 4-5 h is necessary if the circulating and cooling systems are appropriately designed. Since a lower gas flow rate promotes the formation of di- and polysulfochlorides, it makes no sense to run a sulfochlorination plant much below name-plate capacity. [Pg.157]

Figure 1 The MAPK pathway and its connections to other signals A negative feedback loop connects the phosphorylated endpoint of the pathway ERK (Extracellular-signal Regulated Kinase) to the transcriptionally-driven synthesis of the phosphatase, MKP MAP kinase phosphatase. MKP then de-phosphorylates ERK to shut down the signaling cascade. The positive feedback loop again starts with the terminal kinase ERK which activates cPLA2 (cytosolic phospholipase A2). This leads to the synthesis of arachidonic acid, which, in turn activates protein kinase C (PKC). PKC is a positive regulator of RAS (Please see Color Plate Section in the back of this book). At high liquid flowrates, the liquid gradient on the tray can become excessive and lead to poor vapour distribution across the plate. This problem may be overcome by the shortening of the liquid flow-path as in the case of the double-pass and cascade trays. The whole design process is discussed in Volume 6. [Pg.707]

Although it is difficult to determine the quantitative requirements of plate and plate materials appropriately for various fuel cells and different applications in a development phase, such a target would be helpful to direct the development effort and make necessary trade-offs. The cascaded performance requirement targets in 2010 and 2015 for bipolar plates of fuel cells in transportation applications were set by the U.S. DoE (Department of Energy) according to functions of the plate mentioned before and overall requirements of performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost of a stack, as shown in Table 5.1 [7]. The technical target in the DoE s multiyear research, development, and demonstration plan has been popularly and worldwide... [Pg.311]
