The Carpet and Rug Institute and Carpet America Recovery Effort, USA 

In scientific terms, the human ecosystem, inclusive of the communities we build, is a subset of the larger ecosystem we call Earth. The carpet industry works from the definition of snstainability that sees human activities as part of and dependent upon the natural world. Most definitions stress that sustainability requires making decisions that recognize the connections between actions and effects in the environment, economy, and society. Sustainability is very much about what kind of legacy we want to leave for our children and grandchildren. 

Carpet, like most sophisticated prodncts, is a complex system containing many elements. The very dnrability that is the hallmark of a quahty carpet today contributes to the difficulty associated with disassembly and recovery. 

The carpet indnstry in the US A has an established and well recognized history of environmental stewardship. The aspirational goal of The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) is for carpet to be universally accepted as a sustainable product. In order to accomplish this objective, the indnstry committed to a journey of continuous improvement over a decade ago. The nltimate destination is sustainability and we
