Carbonyl compounds reaction with enol silanes

Silanes normally reduce aldehydes or ketones under catalytic conditions to the silyl ethers. However, with certain catalysts such as nickel sulfide,Co2(CO)8, or (Ph3P)3RhCl, carbonyl compounds react with silanes to yield an equilibrium mixture of enol silyl ethers (Scheme 17). In a similar vein, the silyl-hydroformylation reaction of cycloalkenes with CO and silanes may be a practical way to prepare enol silyl ethers. An example is the preparation of compound (49). Catalytic 1,4-hydrosilation of a, -un-saturated ketones or aldehydes gives the corresponding enol silyl ethers. The reaction is similar to the reductive silylation referred to previously, but the reaction conditions are neutral and milder. The formation of the enol silyl ether (50) is outlined below. ... [Pg.603]

Silyltitanation of 1,3-dienes with Cp2Ti(SiMe2Ph) selectively affords 4-silylated r 3-allyl-titanocenes, which can further react with carbonyl compounds, C02, or a proton source [26]. Hydrotitanation of acyclic and cyclic 1,3-dienes functionalized at C-2 with a silyloxy group has been achieved [27]. The complexes formed undergo highly stereoselective addition with aldehydes to produce, after basic work-up, anti diastereomeric (3-hydroxy enol silanes. These compounds have proved to be versatile building blocks for stereocontrolled polypropionate synthesis. Thus, the combination of allyltitanation and Mukayiama aldol or tandem aldol-Tishchenko reactions provides a short access to five- or six-carbon polypropionate stereosequences (Scheme 13.15) [28],... [Pg.457]

The addition of carbonyl compounds towards lithiated 1-siloxy-substituted allenes does not proceed in the manner described above for alkoxyallenes. Tius and co-work-ers found that treatment of 1-siloxy-substituted allene 67 with tert-butyllithium and subsequent addition of aldehydes or ketones led to the formation of ,/i-unsaturated acyl silanes 70 (Scheme 8.19) [66]. This simple and convenient method starts with the usual lithiation of allene 67 at C-l but is followed by a migration of the silyl group from oxygen to C-l, thus forming the lithium enolate 69, which finally adds to the carbonyl species. Transmetalation of the lithiated intermediate 69 to the corresponding zinc enolate provided better access to acylsilanes derived from enolizable aldehydes. For reactions of 69 with ketones, transmetalation to a magnesium species seems to afford optimal results. [Pg.436]

Indium-mediated allylation of trialkyl(difluoroacetyl)silane 70 in aqueous media gives homoallylic alcohol 71 exclusively (Scheme 60). Both water and THF are essential for the allylation reaction. It is worth noting that homoallylic alcohol 71 is formed exclusively under these reaction conditions. On the contrary, enol silyl ether 72 is a major product of the fluorinated acylsilanes reaction with other organometallic compounds than indium via a Brook rearrangement and defluorination. Indium-mediated allylsilylation of carbonyl compounds provides a facile route to 2-(hydroxyethyl)allylsilanes. The allene homologs are similarly prepared (Scheme 61).244,244a... [Pg.686]

Cyclohexanones can be dehydrogenated to enones by treatment of the corresponding enol silanes with DDQ in the presence of a catalytic amount of the bis-silyl derivative of acetamide. However, the yields fall off drastically when the reaction is applied to cyclopentanones and cyclo-heptanones. Another new method for dehydrogenation of carbonyl compounds consists of conversion to their pyridine-2-sulfIde derivatives, followed by oxidation (MCPBA), and by mild heat. ... [Pg.268]

Allylic silanes, silyl enol ethers, " and ketene silyl acetals " serve as electron-rich alkenes in photoreactions with a variety of carbonyl compounds, such as benzophenone, to give oxetanes in a regio- and stereoselective manner. The ring-opening reactions of... [Pg.141]

The formal conjugate addition of a hydride to a,f(-unsaturated carbonyl compounds with a subsequent aldol reaction of the in situ formed enolate has been frequently employed in organic synthesis. A broad range of procedures have been developed using various metals (e.g., rhodium, cobalt, iridium, mthenium, copper) and different reductants (typically silanes, boranes, or elemental hydrogen) [37]. [Pg.287]

Titanium tetrachloride is a moisture-sensitive, highly flammable liquid reacting violently with water (34). It is a strong Lewis acid capable of promoting Diels-Alder reactions (35) and induces the addition of silyl enol ethers and allyl silanes to carbonyl compounds and derivatives (34r-36). It is a less commonly used catalyst in Friedel-Crafts reactions but very useful for the acylation of activated alkenes and in the Fries rearrangement. [Pg.16]
