Capacitor coatings

Electrolytic type sensors Uxt thick film techniques, e.g. capacitor coated in gl bonded on to a ceramic disc mounted on a thermoelectric (Peltier effect) cooler. Control is by a platinum resistance thermometer which adjusts the temperature of the cooler to regain equilibrium after a change in capacitance due to moisture deposit. Range depends on technique. Capable of high precision. Limitations are similar to those for AIjO) sensor. Capable of being direct mounted. Relatively cheap. Suitable for on-line use. [Pg.520]

The values, derived from manufacturers data sheets, are only intended to permit general comparisons to be made capacitor coatings and cases are not allowed for in estimating volumes. [Pg.253]

Appiications cable insulation, capacitors, coatings (agitators, centrifuges, electroplating equipment, exhaust hoods, filters, piping systems, reactors, semiconductor storage tanks, vessels), films, fibers, hollow fiber membranes, pipes, printed circuits, rods, sheet, solar collectors ... [Pg.108]

Capacitors. The outstandingly low dielectric loss of parylenes make them superior candidates for dielectrics in high quality capacitors. Furthermore, their dielectric constant and loss remain constant over a wide temperature range. In addition, they can be easily formed as thin, pinhole-free films. Kemet Flatkaps are fabricated by coating thin aluminum foil with Parylene N on both sides and winding the coated foils in pairs (62). [Pg.442]

Electrically Functional. Refractory coatings are used in semiconductor devices, capacitors, resistors, magnetic tape, disk memories, superconductors, solar ceUs, and diffusion barriers to impurity contamination from the substrate to the active layer. [Pg.51]

Because of the ease with which they can be soldered, electroplated tin—lead coatings of near eutectic composition (62 wt % tin) are extensively used in the electronics industry for coating printed circuit boards and electrical coimectors, lead wires, capacitor and condenser cases, and chassis. [Pg.61]

Zinc Costing of Ca.pa.citors, In the zinc coating of paper strip for capacitors, the paper strip is fed from air through locks into a vacuum environment. There, it is coated by thermally evaporated zinc. The rate of evaporation is so high that contamination of the zinc vapor is excluded. The paper is fed at the maximum rate permitted by its own strength. [Pg.367]

Dielectric Constant The dielectric constant of material represents its ability to reduce the electric force between two charges separated in space. This propei ty is useful in process control for polymers, ceramic materials, and semiconduc tors. Dielectric constants are measured with respect to vacuum (1.0) typical values range from 2 (benzene) to 33 (methanol) to 80 (water). TEe value for water is higher than for most plastics. A measuring cell is made of glass or some other insulating material and is usually doughnut-shaped, with the cylinders coated with metal, which constitute the plates of the capacitor. [Pg.764]

Tank/soil potential measurements cannot be made on objects to be protected with very high coating resistances which are found in rare cases of defect-free coating, and particularly with resin coatings. Off potentials change relatively quickly with time, similar to the discharge of a capacitor, and show erroneous values that are too positive [8]. This is the case with coating resistances of 10 Q m. If there are defects, the resistance is clearly much lower. The advice in Section 3.3.2.2 is then applicable for potential measurement. [Pg.295]

Applications Although a wide range of metals can be sputtered, the method is often commercially restricted by the low rate of deposition. Applications include the coating of insulating surfaces, e.g. of crystal vibrators, to render them electrically conducting, and the manufacture of some selenium rectifiers. The micro-electronics industry now makes considerable use of sputtering in the production of thin-film resistors and capacitors . ... [Pg.442]

The largest uses of platinum group metals in electronics are ruthenium for resistors and palladium for multilayer capacitors, both applied by thick film techniques . Most anodes for brine electrolysis are coated with mixed ruthenium and titanium oxide by thermal decomposition . Chemical vapour deposition of ruthenium was patented for use on cutting tools . [Pg.566]

There are three major classes of palladium-based hydrogen sensors [4], The most popular class of palladium-based sensors is based on palladium resistors. A thin film of palladium deposited between two metal contacts shows a change in conductivity on exposure to hydrogen due to the phase transition in palladium. The palladium field-effect transistors (FETs) or capacitors constitute the second class, wherein the sensor architecture is in a transistor mode or capacitor configuration. The third class of palladium sensors includes optical sensors consisting of a layer of palladium coated on an optically active material that transforms the hydrogen concentration to an optical signal. [Pg.502]
