Cancer nomenclature

Structure and Nomenclature Search System. This system links the collection of chemical databases found in the Chemical Information System (CIS), one of the first interactive systems for stmcture and substmcture searching. References from the separate files can be retrieved by SANSS using CAS Registry Numbers, and the database of stmctures may be searched for stmctures or substmctures. An adaptation of the SANSS software for substmcture searching has been incorporated in the Dmg Information System of the National Cancer Institute for its own use (54). 

So far nine arginine methyltransferases [46] and more than 20 lysine methyltransferases [11] have been identified in humans. Many of them show links to cancer. We discuss several of these subtypes below and an overview can be found in Tables 12.1 and 12.2. For lysine methyltransferases traditionally individual names have been used for the various subtypes. Lately, a common nomenclature for chromatin modifying enzymes has been proposed. For the human lysine methyltransferases the name KMTs should be used in analogy to (P)RMTs and eight groups (KMTl-8) with different subtypes suggested for some members [47]. But this nomenclature is not used consistently even throughout the recent literature so we provide both names if available in Table 12.2.

TEHIP s primary information resource repository is the TOXNET system of databases. TOXNET comprises databases of summary toxicological information, technical literature, references, chemical nomenclature, and toxic releases. It also provides links to additional sources of information on toxicology, environmental health, and hazardous chemicals. The contents of the TOXNET databases are derived from federal agencies such as the US Environmental Protection Agency, the National Cancer Institute, and NLM itself.
