A sex pheromone has been implicated in the courtship behavior of the ichneumonid wasp, Campoletis sonorensis (Vinson, 1972). Although the exact site of production of the sex pheromone is not identified, Vinson suggested that the sex pheromone gland in this insect is associated with the cuticle. In another ichneumonid, Eriborus terebrans, one of the sex pheromone components is a hydrocarbon (Shu and Jones, 1993). We speculate that in ichneumonids the pheromone is synthesized in Class II oenocytes, similar to the hydrocarbon secretions produced in other insects (Schal et al., 1998).

Although parasitism of zea larvae on tomato is variable and often low in North Carolina, we have consistently observed lower levels of larval parasitism by an array of parasitoids on plant lines selected for elevated levels of 2-tridecanone-mediated resistance to M, sexta (Table VI) (64). To investigate the causes of reduced parasitism, we focused on two species of larval parasitoids Campoletis sonorensis (Cameron), an ichneumonid, and Archytas marmoratus (Townsend), a tachinid.

The new dioxabisabolane skeleton derivative of bisabolane and common to four aldingenins could be specific to the species Laurencia aldingensis (de Carvalho et al, 2007). Gossonorol was isolated for the first time from the essential oil of cotton where it acts as a repellent against the parasite Campoletis sonorensis (Elzen, Williams, and Vinson, 1984).
