Cake baffles

The cake baffle disc was patented more than 15 years ago by the then Pennwalt/Sharples company [7]. It has been variously known as the Lee disc (after the inventor), a BD disc, biological disc or a baffle disc. Together with a negative ring dam (pond level higher than the cake discharge) it was known... [Pg.99]

The baffle cone has the same function as the cake baffle disc. In place of the disc at the foot of the beach, a cone the full length of the beach or a shortened one at the foot is substituted. [Pg.100]

This disc is the same as the cake baffle disc but fitted close to the centrate discharge. It is only suited to the countercurrent decanter. [Pg.101]

The longitudinal baffle (9J perforins the same function as the cake baffle disc but in form Is a rectangular plate fitted, by welding, between two adjacent... [Pg.103]

For waterworks applications, decanters normally will be operated with polymer addition facilities, at alternative admission points. They will need full erosion protection for the flights, using tiles. They will have some kind of cake baffle, possibly a cone, and a variable speed back-drive, with good differential and torque control. They will be operated with deep neutral ponds, with axial flow (i.e. with flight windows, such that the liquid flows parallel to the axis, rather than around the helical space), and with provision for wash-out prevention at start-up. [Pg.129]

A disc built onto the conveyor hub to baffle scrolled cake. Also known as a cake baffle Baffle disc... [Pg.364]

Named after the inventor, R High. Another name for the longitudinal cake baffle, between two flights... [Pg.372]

A rectangular cake baffle plate, Htted axially between tw o conseenlive tllghts, to give a back pressure to the scrolling cake The lower half of the casing attached to the frame... [Pg.373]

Other modifications have special but more limited apphcations. A centrifugal bowl may contain, instead of disks, several aimular baffles that take the hquid through a labyrinth path before discharge. The multiple cylinders increase cake capacity to as much as 70 L for easily sedimented sohds. This centrifuge is used for clarification of food symps and antibiotics (qv), and for recovery of heavy metallic salts and catalysts (see Fig. 14c). [Pg.411]

Methods of dust removal depend mainly on the particle size of the dust and the temperature and moisture content of the gas. The methods used are broadly divided into dry methods and wet methods. The dry methods involve the use of gravity and baffle chambers, cyclones, filters, and electrostatic precipitators, while the wet methods involve the use of spray towers and venturi scrubbers. In principle, wet cleaning is preferred to dry cleaning because of the excessive wear associated with and the difficulty in handling the fine dusty material removed in the dry methods. The wet methods, however, must be followed by such operations as filtration, drying of filter cakes, and recycling of water. [Pg.775]

Processing the carbon separately with internal baffles in SCWO reactor to ensure sufficient residence time alternatively, decontaminating carbon to 5X using one of several processes (e.g., heated discharge conveyor or A1 filter cake dryer) Implementation of improved filtration technique and verification of correct SCWO feed composition by sampling and analysis... [Pg.146]
