Baffle cone

The baffle cone has the same function as the cake baffle disc. In place of the disc at the foot of the beach, a cone the full length of the beach or a shortened one at the foot is substituted. 

Many feed zones have their discharge ports following the helix of the flight. This can allow build up of solids in dead areas. This is overcome wnth the inline feed zone that is possible when using a baffle cone (see Section 2.4.6.2). 

Reentrainmeut from the bottom of the cyclone can be prevented in several ways. If a typical long-cone dry cyclone is used and hquid is kept continually drained, vortex entrainmeut is uuhkely. However, a vortex breaker baffle in the outlet is desirable, and perhaps a flat disk on top extending to within 2 to 5 cm (0.8 to 2 in) of the walls may be...

A disk or cone baffle located beneath the gas outlet duct may be beneficial if air in-leakage at the dust outlet cannot be avoided. A heavy chain suspended from the gas outlet duct has been found beneficial to minimize dust buildup on the cyclone walls in certain circumstances. Such a chain should be suspended from a swivel so that it is free to rotate without twisting. Substantially all devices that have been reported to reduce pressure drop do so by reducing spiral velocities in the cyclone chamber and consequently result in reduced collection efficiency.
