Sewing buttons

In these machines, the needle moves only up and down to form the stitch, and the clamp feed moves the fabric horizontally (jc-axis) or vertically (y-axis), creating the required shape. The movement of the clamp is controlled by a cam-follower mechanism or electronics. In a cam-follower mechanism, the specific pattern of button sew (e.g. N or X), specific length and width of buttonhole or specific shape of tack (e.g. I or D) can be made by one specific cam type, and for any change of pattern and/or shape of tack, the cam needs to be replaced and involves machine downtime. In an electronic machine, the movement of the cam is controlled by a microprocessor, and thus a different pattern and/or shape of tacks can be sewn easily by changing the program in the microprocessor.

You can also get 5/8 inch plastic buttons from the local sewing shop which will serve as well. 

With your darning needle and thread, sew the cardboard or button to the other end of the rubber band with three or four stitches. When pulling the rubber band back over the plunger, don t pull it by the cardboard or button. Instead, use a knife or similar flat instrument under the rubber band and ease it over the plunger.

In order to get certification according to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, aU components of a textile product have to conform to the required criteria without exception, meaning that in addition to the outer material also sewing threads, linings, prints, etc. as well as nontextile accessories such as buttons, zip fasteners, rivets, etc. have to comply with the requirements. The OEKO-TEX certificate is valid for a duration of 12 months.

Flat or sew-throngh buttons have holes through which thread is sewn to attach the button. Flat buttons may be attached by sewing machine rather than by hand, and may be used with heavy fabrics by working a thread shank to extend the height of the button above the fabric. 

Sew-on fasteners provide simple, easy-to-use fabric closures for clothing, accessories, and home decorating. These sew-on fabric and clothing fasteners can be used instead of buttons, snaps, or zippers and are washable by machine or dry cleaning. Simply hand- or machine-stitch aroimd the edges of the tape and backstitch to secure. 

Wood, cork, mother of pearl, glass, or other nondurable buttons must not be used on children s clothing. Buttons should not have rough or sharp edges and must be free from rust, contamination, or any other toxic elements. Only core-spun polyester sewing thread should be used when attaching buttons. 

Check that the sew holes of the buttons are clear and free from flash and burrs. 

The ASTM D 6193 standard also includes sewing applications for buttons/snaps/ hook and eye attachments, buttonhole stitching, bartack stitching, tacking, specialty stitching and seams and guide to count stitches per inch. 

Interlinings, also called interfacing, are generally nonwoven fabrics that add more structure and body to garment components like collars, button plackets, waistbands, and cuffs. Interlinings may be fusible or sew-on. Interlining durability is important...

Polyester/cottoni Sometimes labeled all-purpose, it s actually polyester thread wrapped in cotton. The best choice to have at home for hand or machine sewing, for use with cotton and cotton blends, polyester/cotton thread is also good for sewing on buttons because it combines flexibility with added strength.
