Pattern 14.1, Business Process Improvement, is about applying object technology to organizations other than software.

Another problem-solving methodology popular with lean thinkers is the PDCA problem-solving loop. PDCA (plan-do-check-act) is an iterative four-step problem-solving process typically used in business process improvement. It is also known as the Demlng cycle, Shewhart cycle, Deming wheel, or Plan-Do-Study-Act. 

Leadership must be the first to change if the culture of a business is to move in a new direction. World-class lean or safety has to be built on a foundation of trust and the level of trust in any business is a direct reflection of leadership s behaviors and actions. Because of the size and complexity of the supply chain network structure, the representations of inter-organization relationships and interdependencies between them are necessary.
