Burst strength tests

Long-Term Burst Strength Test (ASTM D 1598)... [Pg.284]

The bursting strength is the hydrostatic pressure required to mpture a specimen when it is tested in a specified instmment under specified conditions. It is the pressure required to produce mpture of a circular area of the paper (30.5-mm dia) when the pressure is apphed at a controlled rate (TAPPI T403). It is related to tensile strength and extensibiUty and is used extensively throughout the industry for packaging and container grades. [Pg.2]

A difference between tank cars and most pressure vessels is that tank cars are designed in terms of the theoretical ultimate or bursting strength of the tank. The test pressure is usually 40 percent of the bursting pressure (sometimes less). The safety valves are set at 75 percent of the test pressure. Thus, the maximum operating pressure is usually 30 percent of the bursting pressure. This gives a nominal factor of safety of 3.3, compared with 4.0 for Division 1 of the ASME Pressure Vessel Code. [Pg.1020]

The mechanical properties have not been reported conclusively. Most of the available data provided was based on fold endurance testing. Although it is an important property that should be determined, studies of tensile, tear and burst strengths are important as well. [Pg.29]

The basic mission of the Physics and Biology Laboratories is to test paper treated with products used in the restoration process. Physics is in an air-conditioned room, maintained at 60% relative humidity at 21°C, equipped with machines for testing folding endurance, tensile, and burst strength of paper. Biology runs tests, primarily with culture media, to determine the susceptibility of the treated paper to attack by microorganisms these are identified and a determination is made on how to avoid or eradicate them. Aging chambers are available for tests made by the laboratories. [Pg.42]

The fracture strength of polysilicon layers can be measured by burst pressure testing of membranes or by using sophisticated surface-micromachined tensile test structures based on, for example, selective ion implantation [28], an electrostatic force grip [29], or a micromanipulator [14]. The fracture strength determined by the different techniques varies significantly with the different measurement principles. However, several conclusions can be drawn from published tensile testing experiments ... [Pg.153]

The various benchmark values set by EN 13795 for surgical gowns, surgical drapes, and clean air suits are found in Tables 5.8—5.10, respectively. The industrial test methods, in addition to common strength tests (tensile, tear, and bursting), comfort, and absorbency, normally carried out on hospital protective textiles are presented in (Table 5.11). [Pg.108]
