On February 21, 1809, Hatchett became a member of the famous Literary Club which had been founded in 1764 by Dr. Samuel Johnson and Sir Joshua Reynolds (51). As treasurer of the club, Hatchett prepared a brief historical account of it, which appears in Boswell s Life of Johnson (25).
