Braiding Materials Made of Soft PVC for Children and Youths Mats for... [Pg.364]

Similarly to the braiding material made of soft PVC (Sect. 1.2), cheap microscopes for children come from Taiwan, PR China, and other low-wage countries. The handling of the relevant plastic product risks is correspondingly irresponsible, whereby low prices are considered more important than the health of the consumer and the environment. [Pg.382]

To evaluate the braided materials properties three references have been investigated, Ref-55, Ref-45 and Ref-35. The structure was braided layer by layer upon a tubular mandrel with a 50-mm diameter. Four layers were braided on the same mandrel for each reference. The spools rotational velocity was held constant during braiding. As the braid was made of several layers, the thickness of each layer increases the apparent diameter on which the next layer will be braided. For this reason, the take-up speed was adjusted in order to keep the same braid angle from one layer to the next. According to the yam count, tubular mandrel geometry and braiding parameters, the cover factor [40] obtained is close to 100%. [Pg.359]

Shipment, Stora.ge, ndPrice. l-Methyl-2-pyrrohdinone is available in tank cars or tank trailers as well as in dmms. Shipping containers are normally of unlined steel. Rubber hose is unsuitable for handling standard steel pipe or braided steel hose is acceptable. Ordinarily 1020 carbon steel (0550) is satisfactory as a storage material. Stainless-steel 304 and 316, nickel, and aluminum are also suitable. MethylpyrroHdinone is hygroscopic and must be protected from atmospheric moisture. In September 1994, NMP was Hsted at 3.89/kg. [Pg.363]

Shipment and Storage. Sulfur dichloride, if kept dry, is noncorrosive at ambient temperatures, thus carbon steel and Hon can be used Hi the constmction of tanks, piping, and dmms. However, when water or humidity is present, materials resistant to hydrochloric acid must be used, eg, glass-lined pipe. Teflon, titanium, HasteUoy C, or possibly a chemically resistant, glass-reiaforced polyester. Threaded pipe joHits should be assembled with Teflon tape. Hoses should be constmcted with a Teflon inner lining with the outer tube constmcted of Neoprene or braided 316 stainless steel protected by an adequate thickness of Teflon. Sulfur dichloride should be stored away from heat and away from dHect rays of the sum. Toluene and sulfur dichloride react exothermically when catalyzed by Hon or ferric chloride. Safety precautions should be foUowed when such a mixture is present (165). [Pg.139]

Fibrous Composites. These composites consist of fibers in a matrix. The fibers may be short or discontinuous and randomly arranged continuous filaments arranged parallel to each other in the form of woven rovings (coUections of bundles of continuous filaments) or braided (8). In the case of chopped strand mat the random arrangement is planar. In whisker (needle-shaped crystals or filaments of carbon and ceramics) reinforced materials the arrangement is usually three-dimensional and the resulting composites are macroscopically homogeneous. [Pg.3]

Another type of electronic connector joins coaxial conductors. These have a soHd or stranded center-conductor surrounded by a dielectric. The dielectric is covered with a conductive shield made of metal braid or tape and with a layer of insulation. Coaxial cable connectors terminate the center-conductor and the shield. These are used primarily in radio frequency circuits. The shape, dimensions, and materials of an electronic connector shell or stmcture may have to be designed to shield the connection from electromagnetic and radio frequency interferences in many appHcations. [Pg.26]

Copper To 1500 Properties depend on other construction materials and form of copper used. Packing made of copper foil over asbestos core resists steam and alkalies to lOOO F. Packing of braided copper tinsel resists water, steam, and gases to 1500 F. [Pg.2475]

Conductive Polymers Anodes currently available consist of a conductive-polymer graphite material coated on to a multistrand copper conductor. The polymer provides an active surface but shields the conductor from chemical attack. A non-conductive outer braid may be used to give abrasion resistance and avoid direct contact with the cathode. The finished anode has the appearance of an electric cable and is claimed to have applications for buried/immersed structures and for internal protection of tanks, etc. Anode current densities are typically given as 14-30mAm ... [Pg.225]

Aeolian sands are deposited by wind action, either in dunes or in extensive sheets ( cover sand areas ) Wind action is particularly effective in hot and dry regions such as deserts but sand dunes are also common in (sub)humid regions with sparse vegetation, notably in overgrazed areas and along beaches and fluvial braid plains . The (weathering) history of the parent materials in the source area determines whether the sands are rich in quartz and/or carbonates. [Pg.12]

Most plastics react chemically with chlorine because of their hydrocarbon structural makeup. This reactivity is avoided with some plastics in which fluorine atoms nave been substituted into the hydrocarbon molecule. The Chlorine Institute recommends that hoses constructed with such an inner lining "have a structural layer braid of polyvinyli-dene fluoride (PVDF) monofilament material or a structural braid of Hastelloy C-276. An underlying lesson here is material compatibility. Material compatibility tables exist that engineers can consult, including in other sections within this volume. [Pg.6]

Major instrumentation involved with the generation of thermal property behavior of materials includes thermogravimetric analysis (TG, TGA), DSC, differential thermal analysis (DTA), torsional braid analysis (TBA), thermomechanical analysis (TMA), thermogravimetric-mass spectrometry (TG-MS) analysis, and pyrolysis gas chromatography (PGQ. Most of these analysis techniques measure the polymer response as a function of time, atmosphere, and temperature. [Pg.437]

Suture manufacture is specialized. In the production from raw materials or isolation from natural materials, purification is especially important because small amounts of by-products and contaminants can have a serious effect of the properties of the suture and the behavior within the patient. Processes for suture fabrication include melt spinning, extrusion, and braiding. [Pg.603]
