Boron trifluoride dihydrate

Boron trifluoride forms two hydrates, BF H2O and boron trifluoride dihydrate [13319-75-0], BF 2H20, (also BF D2O [33598-66-2] and BF3 -2D20 [33598-66-2]). According to reported nmr data (43,44), the dihydrate is ionic, H O F BOH" . The trihydrate has also been reported (45). [Pg.160]

One mole (67.8 g.) of boron trifluoride is absorbed by passing it into 2 moles (36 g.) of water. The product is distilled without decomposition at 1 mm. pressure, and boron trifluoride dihydrate is collected at 58.5-60°, m.p. 4.5-5°. [Pg.43]

Method E To a suspension of 0.67 mM of ruthenium(IV) dioxide dihydrate in 0.8 mL of trifluoroacetic acid, 0.4 mL of trifluoroacetic anhydride, and 4 mL of CH2C12 at 0 C is added, with stirring and under argon, a solution of 0.33 mM of prestegane B in 4mL of CH2C12 and, immediately, 0.2 mL of boron trifluoride-diethyl ether complex. After 3 h. the suspended solid is removed by filtration. Evaporation and flash chromatography affords the pure crystalline product yield 84% mp 228-230°C. [Pg.574]

Boron Trifluoride. This compound, a pungent, colorless gas (b.p. — 101°), prepared by heating B203 with NH4BF4 or with CaF2 and concentrated H2S04, reacts with water to form two hydrates, which may be written BF3 H20 and BF3-2H20 and melt at 10.18° and 6.36°, respectively. They are un-ionized in the solid state, and the structure of BF3-H20 is probably that of a normal adduct. This species presumably also exists in the solid dihydrate, but the manner in which the second H20 is held is at present unknown. Both these hydrates are partially dissociated into ions in their liquid phases, presumably as follows ... [Pg.233]

Discovery of the dienone-phenol rearrangement of quinol acetates has made possible the synthesis of dihydric phenols that were difficult of access by other routes. The starting materials are obtained from phenols and lead tetraacetate, and with acetic anhydride and sulfuric acid (Thiele acetylation) or with boron trifluoride in ether they give, respectively, di- and mono-acetyl derivatives of resorcinol or hydroquinone.309 When treated with lN-sodium hydroxide, 0-quinol acetates of type (1) undergo nucleophilic addition of an OH" ion, giving resorcinol derivatives (2).310 Occurrence of the reaction is considered... [Pg.305]

Oxidative dimerisation of a guaiacyl system, namely prestegane B, in dichloromethane containing boron trifluoride etherate was achieved in 80% yield by addition to a stirred suspension of ruthenium dioxide dihydrate in dichloromethane containing triflic acid/triflic anhydride (in the proportions 8 2 1) at 0°C followed by reaction for 3 hours (ref.73). [Pg.290]

Boron trtfluorlde forms complexes with ether, acidic acid, phenol, etc. Forms monohydrate and/or dIhydrate with substandard water. The cfihydrate is a corrosive liquid with melting point at 6 C. TLV is maximum and must not be exceeded. Lung edema symptoms usually develop several hours later and are aggravated by ph ical exertion rest and hospitalization essential. Do not spray leaking cylinder wittt water (to avoid corrosion). The boron trifluoride dltq rate has HI no. 80 and UN no. 2851. [Pg.120]
