Besides using the DFT approach, other high-level theoretical models have also been developed to probe the kinetic parameters, relevant to SOFC operation. For example, the unity bond index-quadratic exponential potential (UBI-QEP) [104,105] was successfully performed to study several elementary reactions on various transition metal surfaces [106]. This approach generated activation barriers and enthalpy changes for forward and reverse reactions for the formation and dissociation of H20 and OH" species. [Pg.211]

Jensen [9] indicated that there is no evidence that Drago s parameters reflect the relative electrostatic and covalent contributions to the bonding in resulting adducts. They were not correlated with either a physical property (dipole moment, ionization potential) or with a quantum-mechanically calculated index. Drago s approach is a purely empirical method of calculating enthalpy of formation for molecular adducts. Fowkes applied the Lewis E C equation [19] and has attempted to determine E and C parameters for both polymers and surfaces. However, Jensen [9] indicated the potential problem connected... [Pg.467]

By the mid-1970s, the existence of CH- -X H-bonds had achieved general acceptance [15], with verification coming from a range of different measurements that included vapor pressure, azeotrope formation, second virial coefficient, solubility, freezing-point diagrams, enthalpies of mixing, dipole moments, viscosity, refractive index, and electronic, vibrational, and NMR... [Pg.264]

The lattice enthalpy ofNaCl(s) is an index of the strength ofthe bonding between Na and Cl ions in the sodium chloride crystal. However, ions in a sodium chloride crystal lattice are not paired, and each sodium (or chloride) ion is attracted by six oppositely charged neighbouring ions and (less strongly) by more distant ions. This means that AH f is a measure of the total attractive force between sodium and chloride ions within the lattice, and does not simply reflect the force of attraction between isolated pairs ofNa", Cl . [Pg.234]
