Bluefish

Types of Fish. The fish most commonly implicated in these outbreaks are the so-called scombroid fish belonging to the families Scomberesocidae and Scombridae. These fish would include the many varieties of tuna, skipjack, bonito, albacore, mackerel, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, saury, butterfly kingfish, and seerfish. Tuna, skipjack, and mackerel are the most commonly involved scombroid fish. [Pg.418]

Important analytical considerations regarding lipid normalization In addition to the problems associated with normalization of contaminants to total lipid discussed above, the problem of lipid normalization is further compounded by differences in the efficiency of various lipid extraction methods. In short, different lipid classes are extracted by different solvents. For example, bluefish liver yielded total lipid levels of 25% when extracted using chloroform/methanol but only 8% when acetonitrile was the extracting solvent92. This reflects differences in the lipid class extracted by each solvent neutral lipids were preferentially extracted by non-polar solvents and more polar membrane lipids were extracted more efficiently by more... [Pg.128]

Trypsin, chymotrypsin, and cathepsin C (all from bovine), and the synthetic substrates glycyl-L-phenylalanine p-naphtylamide (GPNA), 4-phenylazo benzyloxy-car-bonyl-pro-leu-gly-pro-D-arg (PZ-peptide), N-benzoyl-L-tyrosine ethyl ester (BTEE), and Na-benzoyl-DL-arginine p-nitroanilide (BAPNA), were purchased from Sigma Chemical Co (St. Louis, MO). Fresh bluefish (Pomatomus saltatrix) and sheephead samples were purchased from a local fish market (Waldman Plus, Montreal, PQ) and kept in iCe until ready for use. [Pg.70]
