Blow back principle

The primer is the origin of the mercury the average amount is 4,070 pg, which is equivalent to approximately 5,775 pg mercury fulminate. This is burned at high temperature and pressure, with the vast majority of it expelled with force from the muzzle and away from the firer. The pistol used in the tests works on the blow back principle. This involves the use of gas pressure... [Pg.216]

Another variation of the same principle is the DDS vacuum pressure filter which has a number of small discs mounted on a shaft which rotates discontinuously. The cake is formed on both sides of the discs when they are at the bottom position, i.e. dipped in the slurry. When the discs come out of the slurry and reach the top position, hydraulically driven pistons squeeze the cake and the extra liquid then drains from both sides of the cake. The cake is removed by blow-back with compressed air. [Pg.390]

The new thinking still maintains the primacy of the offensive. The aim would be to push an enemy - described always as an aggressor -back to his own territory, to disrupt and defeat him there. The first principle of a Soviet offensive is that surprise is vital, particularly since this would prevent the full deployment of NATO forces to their forward positions as well as enabling the vital Soviet breakthrough to occur before NATO could reinforce its territory. The second Soviet requirement is for speed. The aim would be to launch a heavy blow on NATO in the attempt to break through NATO s front line. Mobile elements, known as Operational Manoeuvre Groups, would... [Pg.138]
