The proposed metabolic pathway for 2-hexanone is based on blood metabolites identified during intraperitoneal studies in guinea pigs (DiVincenzo et al. 1976) and oral studies in rats (DiVincenzo et al. 1977). The metabolite 2,5-hexanedione has also been found in human serum after inhalation exposure (DiVincenzo et al. 1978). Because studies in rats exposed to 2-hexanone have indicated a strong relationship between the concentration of 2,5-hexanedione in the urine and the onset of neuropathic symptoms (Eben et al. 1979), it would be useful to also have this information for humans. [Pg.51]

The determination of diazepam in plasma with detection limits of 0.03-0.2 fjLg/mh by cathode ray [189] and pulse polarography [174,190] has been described. The first reported pulse assay [174] differs from the other polarographic assays [189,190] in that a more polar solvent is employed to ensure quantitative extraction, followed by TLC separation and determination of diazepam and its major blood metabolite, N-desmethyldiazepam, to ensure specificity. [Pg.804]

Dietary fat source also had no effect on the concentration of blood metabolites during rest, exercise, or recovery (Table VIII). Serum glucose remained within normal physiological limits during all phases. Although there was a small decrease in serum glucose due to exercise, the values did not differ significantly from those while at rest. Plasma lactate and pyruvate increased... [Pg.547]

A number of mechanisms have been invoked to explain the activation of the hypothalamic centers. These mechanisms can be categorized as changes in body temperature, changes in the concentration of blood metabolites (glucose, fats, amino acids, and even water), and efferent nervous impulses originating in the viscera. The most popular theory is that proposed by Mayer [151-153] and referred to as the hypothala-... [Pg.326]

Isoproterenol (Iso) increased avUCP expression (+67% after I h of stimulation), as previously observed in vivo in chicken muscle, but to a greater extent (9 fold-increase Joubert et al, 2010). This discrepancy could be explained by the concomitant effect of isoproterenol on other factors regulating muscle metabolism in vivo, such as plasma thyroid hormones or blood metabolites that could not be investigated here. The use of fatty acid supplement (FA) induced a delayed increase in avUCP expression (+54% after 2 h of stimulation) and was associated with stronger activations of p38 MAPK and AMPK than with isoproterenol. [Pg.72]
