Block PHAs

The uses of low specificity PHA synthases for production of PHA with functional groups for chemical modifications, and PHA with controllable compositions, including block PHA copolymers The use of special strain and mutated PHA synthases The making of PHA diols and the block copolymerization with other polymers... [Pg.130]

We now have the capacity to produce PHAs containing various blocks such as PHB-/)-PHV or PHB-/)-PHBV, and PHB-f)-PHA. These block PHAs have been found to show new properties. More PHB block copolymers are under development and they have the potential to generate more unique applications. [Pg.63]

Hot melt adhesives based on poly(3HB-co-3HV) have also been described [119]. Hot melts are commonly used in bookbinding, bag ending and case and carton sealing and are mostly based on synthetic materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene ethylene-vinyl acetate and styrene block copolymers [119]. Hot melts based on PHAs alleviate the dependence on petroleum based materials and allow the development of biodegradable alternatives based on natural raw materials. [Pg.273]

Preliminary hazard analyses (PHAs) have been conducted for the SILVER II process at various stages of design and have served as building blocks for the EDP PHA effort (AEA, 2001a). These PHAs use the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) technique in accordance with the following regulations and standards ... [Pg.83]

In a recent study, chiral separations for pyrethroic acids, which are the chiral building blocks of synthetic pyrethroids and the primary metabolites of the acid part of these potent ester insecticides, have been developed [62], For example, a polar-organic mobile phase allowed the complete baseline resolution of all four stereoisomers of chrysanthemic acid (2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-methylprop-l-enyl)-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid) on a 0-9-(tcrt-butylcarbamoyl)quinine-based CSP(acjj = 1.20, oLtrans = 1-35, critical Rs = 3.03) (Figure 1,32a). This chiral acid is the precursor of pyrethroids like allethrin, phenothrin, resmethrin, and tetramethrin but not excreted as metabolite. The primary acid metabolite of these pyrethroids is chrysanthemum dicarboxylic acid (3-[(l )-2-carboxyprop-l-enyl]-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid) the stereoisomers of which could also be resolved with a reversed-phase eluent (acetonitrile— 30-mM ammonium acetate buffer 90 10, v/v pHa = 6.0) and employing an O-9-(2,6-diisopropylphenylcarbamoyl)quinine-based CSP ads = 1-09, atrans = 1-50,... [Pg.83]

The dynamic viscoelasticity and the thermal behaviour of films of Thermoelastic 125 cast from solutions in four solvents - toluene (T), carbon tetrachloride (C), ethyl acetate (E), and methyl ethyl ketone (M) — have been studied by Miyaniato The mechanical loss tangent (tan S) and the stor e modulus E dependences exhibit two transitions at —70 °C and 100 °C which have been attributed to onset of motion of polybutadiene and polystyrene s ments, req>ectively. The heights of the polybutadiene peaks on tan 6 curves decrease in the order C> T > E > M, while for polystyrene the order is revered C < T < E < M. These phenomena have been related to the magnitude of pha% aration of the polystyrene and polybutadiene blocks. [Pg.124]

IL-2R ji- and y-chains are both required for binding IL-15 and for signal transduction the a-chain is not required. Like IL-2, IL-15 causes the release of sIL-2Ra fi om PHA-activated human PBMCs in a concentration and time-dependent manner. This effect of IL-15 is largely direct and independent of IL-2. Blocking of the JL 2R(5-chain prevents the release of sIL-2Ra by IL-15 but not by IL-2. IL-7, another cytokine using the y-chain of the IL-2R, drives the release of sIL-2Ra as well. Several clinical condi-... [Pg.689]

In the case, when POTMD of mol. wt. 2000 was used in the preparation of polycocyclotrimer, Tg value decreased to -67°C, which indicates a better pha e separation. In general, a better phase separation is achieved when longer chain diol is used or when polycocyclotrimerization is performed in solution. Similar correlations were reported previously for urethane block copolymers. (14,15)... [Pg.318]

Frequently more than one constituent occur in PHAs homopolymers of the 150 constituents are rare. In the copolymers, which contain two, three or even more different constituents, the constituents are more or less randomly distributed in the chain. Only in a very few cases was evidence for blocky structures obtained however, true block copolyesters are not synthesized in bacteria. [Pg.251]
