Bleeder line

The apparently superficial differences in vocabulary in this exchange may reflect deeper assumptions about language and safety. Miners locate themselves in relation to physical objects, events, and conditions. Investigators locate these same objects, events, and conditions as two-dimensional coordinates on a mine map. Miners describe themselves in relation to the bleeder line. Investigators call the section the number one entry of the first left section. Miners say timber. Investigators say post. These differences reflect underlying differences in viewpoint that reflect deeper assumptions about risk and safety. The bleeder describes a critical component of the mine s ventilation system. The first left section describes the section in relation to the mine s plan of development. The number of the section reveals little about the ventilation system. As a result, it tells us little about the potential hazard or benefit of a particular location in a crisis. In a fire, for example, miners could use the direction of air flow in the bleeder to help them locate an exit. 

The pumps can be either centrifugal or positive displacement types. The centrifugal pumps should have a head curve continuously rising toward the shut-off point. The standby pump should be piped into the system in a manner that permits checking of the pump while the main pump is in operation. To achieve this, a restriction orifice is required with a test bleeder valve piped to the return oil line or the reservoir.

Air blisters generally occur due to trapped air during the processing of the rubber in the calender or extruder or during hand building up of the products. The remedial measures to be undertaken are 1) Modify process temperature or pressure, 2) Feed the calender or extruder with adequate rubber stock, 3) Prick out visible blisters when the compound is in unvulcanized state, and 4) Use bleeder cords between metal and the rubber sheets applied at the welded places in the rubber lining process. 

Consider Figure 5 again. Bleeder steam line B5 extracts 55351 lbm/hr (6.974 kg/s) at 93.8 psia (0.65 MPa) and 603 F (317 C) from the intermediate-pressure turbine delivering it to a feedwater heater. Steam line B5 was chosen to illustrate the design procedure for two reasons. First, the design has sufficient flexibility there are no extraordinary constraints on the pipe material and size, or on insulation thickness. Secondly, the available energy analysis and unit-cost computations for this power plant, and for steam line B5, have been presented in previous papers (5, 6 ) ... 

This system provides a very high degree of protection. Any leak through the root valve is diverted through the bleeder—and there is no way that hazardous chemicals can cross the line break.
