Bismuth phosphonates

Mansfeld and coworkers [127] described the synthesis and characterization of the one-to-one complexes of the bismuth trihalides BiXs (X= Cl, Br, I) with the chelating oxygen-coordinating-donor ligand (iso-PrO)2(0)PCH2P(0)(Oiso-Pr)2. The compounds were analyzed by single crystal XRD, IR, thermal analysis, NMR, ESI MS and conductivity measurements. The combination of these techniques gives a frill description of the structures in the solid state and in solution, and provides information about the use of phosphonic ester complexes as precursors for the formation of bismuth phosphonates. 

Phosphonic acid, H2PHO3, precipitates white bismuth phosphonate, Bi2(PH03)3-3H20, practically insoluble in water, not affected by OH", slowly decomposed by I", and acted upon at once by H2S. 

The metal (zinc, nickel, etc.) dithiophosphonates are attractive antioxidants in lubricants and plastics,124,125 and vulcanization accelerators (more active than analogous dithiophosphates).126 Many metal dithiophosphonates can be extracted with organic solvents and this property can be exploited for analytical applications, e.g., for copper(II) and bismuth(III) (O-hexyl)butyldithio-phosphonates,127 nickel(II), cobalt(II), and palladium(II) (0-ethyl)methyldithiophosphonates,128 platinum(IV), palladium(II), and gold(III) (O-ethyl)methyldithiophosphonates,129 and noble and rare metal (O-methyl)methyldithiophosphonates.130... 

Oximes play an important role as protecting groups due to their hydrolytic stability. Their frequent use has provided incratives far the develqnnent of newo deoximation reagents such as pyridinium chlorochromate, Raney nickel, triethylammonium chlorochromate, pyridinium chlorochromate-H202, nitrogen tetroxide, trimethylsilyl chlorochromate, H2O2 over titanium silicalite-1, Dowex-SO, dimethyl dioxirane, zirconium sulfophenyl phosphonate, AT-haloamides, and bismuth dil( ide (22). 

Besides the traditional coupling between alkenes and aryl (vinyl) halides, other functionalized aryl derivatives can also couple with alkenes in the Heck reaction, including aryl silanes,stannanes, bismuth, antimony,triflates, boric acid, phosphonic acid, carboxylic acid, and diazonium salt. ...

The bismuth trichloride performed highly efficient catalytic activity for three-component coupling reactions, thus the one-pot synthesis of a-amino phosphonates from a carbonyl compounds, amines and dialkyl phosphite were realized, a good to excellent yields were obtained. A wide range of structurally varied carbonyl compounds were used, several sensitive functionalities such as NO2, OMe, OH, Cl, and the C-C double bond are unaffected in the reaction (Equation 14) [33dj.
