The incredible natural abundance double quantum transfer experiment (INADEQUATE) was proposed by Ray Freeman in 1980.1 2 The acronym of this remarkable technique sat high among the many NMR acronyms since, at the time of its birth, it accurately described all its attributes. INADEQUATE was seen as an incredible experiment with vast potential its widespread applications are dwarfed only by its inadequate sensitivity. Depending on the equipment available, an ovemight-to-weekend INADEQUATE experiment on a medium-sized molecule would typically require hundreds of milligrams of sample. Only recently have such unfavourable requirements been addressed with advent of cryogenically cooled probes. Now, INADEQUATE experiments using samples of 5-10 mg have become realistic propositions. [Pg.2]

Without an accurate birth time, you can never know what your Ascendant is (see Chapter 11 for more about Ascendants). You won t have trustworthy house placements for your planets. You may not even know your Moon sign because it changes signs every two or three days. Without an accurate birth time, interpreting your chart correctly will be challenging. And predicting the future will be close to impossible. [Pg.22]

In the absence of anything resembling an accurate birth time, I recommend that you do what professional astrologers do Pretend that you were born either at noon or at dawn (my preference) and proceed accordingly. (In Chapter 3,1 tell you more about what to do if your birth time is lost in space.)... [Pg.23]

Pregnant women have provided a striking illustration of subcutaneous fat (Taggart ei ai, 1967). The pinch test or, more accurately the skinfold lest, was performed on 84 women during the course of their pregnancy Data were taken at the indicated times, i.e, from week 10 of the pregnancy until 8 weeks after birth (Figure 7.1). Skinfold measurements were acquired at various sites of the body. [Pg.384]

The incidence of neonatal abnormalities in mothers taking anticonvulsant treatment is 70/ 1000 live births (Frederick, 1973). This is 2.4 times the spontaneous rate in the general population (29 abnormalities/1000 live births). Thus, even using a known low-incidence teratogen could cause 40 additional cases/1000 live births, but to determine that accurately would require many thousands of female patient exposures to be detectable against the spontaneous background incidence. [Pg.208]

Consequently the assets, intellectual properties, and unique and sensitive personal or organizational information are vulnerable to unauthorized access or manipulation. The industry is in desperate need of a reliable means to secure and protect such information in the electronic information age. For example, the government agencies and any business entities must ensure that the personal information (e.g., legal name, date of birth, social security number, employee number, and mother s maiden name) be kept accurate, current, and in confidence at all times. [Pg.345]

The birth of anatomy, as the basis of scientific medicine, is usually attributed to Andreas Wiring, a physician from Wesel on the Rhine, better known by his Latin name, Vesalius. In 1543, Vesalius, a professor of anatomy at the University of Padua, published De humani corporis fabrica [The Makeup of the Human Body] for the first time in history, people were able to see, in beautiful and accurate illustrations, the structure of their own bodies. 7 The work made Vesalius famous as well as infamous He incurred the wrath of the Inquisition and was sentenced to a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, which, because of the uncertainties of travel at that time, practically amounted to the death penalty indeed, he never came back from the trip. ... [Pg.5]
