Synthesis of a thermosensitive, biodegradable hydrogel consisting of blocks of poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(L-lactic acid) was carried out (4). Aqueous solutions of these copolymers exhibited temperature-dependent reversible gel-sol transitions. The hydrogel can be loaded with bioactive molecules in an aqueous phase at an elevated temperature (around 45°C), where they form a solution. In this form, the polymer is injectable. On subcutaneous injection and subsequent rapid cooling to body temperature, the loaded copolymer forms a gel that can act as a sustained release matrix for drugs (4). [Pg.259]

Phthalazinones constitute an interesting family of bioactive N-hetero-cycles and have been reported with diverse pharmacological activities. Selected derivatives are used in the treatment of asthma, diabetes, hepatitis B, arrhythmia, and vascular hypertension. In addition, certain phthalazinones show antimicrobial activity and represent potent inhibitors of poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase-l (PARP-l). In 2011, Kollar s group reported the synthesis... [Pg.243]

Jenekhe and coworkers reported the synthesis of ABA triblock copolymers containing poly (9,9-dihexylfluorene-2,7-diyl)(PHF) and PBLG segments (17) by NCA polymerization from benzylamine end-functionalized PHF (Rubatat et al, 2008). The copolymers exhibited two different conformations (rod-rod-rod and coU-rod-coil) as a result of a controllable rod-to-coil transition of the polypeptide helices. X-ray scattering data showed that the coil-rod-coil form of the copolymer leads to lamellar ordering, whereas the rod-rod-rod form exhibits a clusterlike stmcture. These bioactive and fluorescent materials can be explored as... [Pg.400]
