BHC/Lindane

The reaction is commercially important because one of the isomers is a potent insecticide. The product is marketed as a mixture of isomers in which the active isomer (-y) is optimally about 40% by weight. It has a variety of trade names Fortified, BHC, Lindane, Gammexane, Hexachlor. [Pg.1076]

Renberg [64] recommends the use of y-BHC (lindane), DDE or DDT as a gas chromatographic internal standard. The relative retention times of the derivatives corresponding to these internal standards are shown in Table 15.3. The detection limits for the different substances for 1L of a water sample are 0.0001-0. lppb. [Pg.264]

Polarity. Polar substances are more strongly bound by soil particles than non-polar ones. Once again, only substances with similar chemical characteristics can be compared. For example 7-BHC (lindane), with a dipole of p = 0.95 X 10 cm (i.e. 2.84 Debye units) is adsorbed more strongly than its isomer /3-BHC with a dipole p = 0. [Pg.676]
