A new BGL gasifier was installed at the Schwarze Pumpe complex in Germany to replace two of the Lurgi gasifiers currently in operation. This unit (85 MWe) gasifies MSW and bituminous coal for the production of electricity and methanol and was recently commissioned. [Pg.113]

Gasifier Capacity. The BGL demonstration unit at Westfield operated at a bituminous coal feed rate of approximately 450 t/d (MAF basis). The dry gas generation rate varies from 1.4 to 1.5 million scf/h (37,000-40,000 Nm /h) with an energy content of 450-500 million Btu/h (HHV), depending on the hydrocarbon recycle rate and injection of coal fines/waste liquids in the tuyeres. Recent BGL gasifier designs have been based on 4 meter (13 foot) diameter with a bituminous coal feed rate of about 1,200 t/d. [Pg.202]

Fines, defined as minus V inch, do not limit the BGL gasifier however, operation with high fines is more complex and expensive. Minimal fines favors unwashed coals and surface mining. Location of the coal conversion plant near the coal mine also reduces handling and generation of fines. [Pg.202]

After decommissioning, the BGL gasifier from the GSP site was relocated to Dharma, Orissa, India. Accompanied by an identical unit, it is intended to be used for synthetic ammonia production. Also on the Chinese market in Hulun-beier. Inner Mongolia, three BGL gasifiers have been put into operation, processing lignite briquettes for ammonia and urea production. Further, nine gasifiers are recently involved in other Chinese projects [209,212,213]. [Pg.264]

In contrast to the Lurgi FBDB, the BGL product gas features more NH3 and more phenols and HCN. The moisture content of the raw gas is around 15vol% and mainly determined by the fuel moisture. The oxygen content of the raw gas is 3-10 ppmv. The minimum acceptable part load operation of the BGL gasifier... [Pg.273]

Similar to the Lurgi FBDB process, the control of the BGL gasifier is comparatively easy Care must be taken to keep the reactor full of coal, which is enough for 0.5-1 h of operation or on a constant level in the case of short-bed operation. As coal feeding is accomplished automatically, only the gasifying agent quantity and composition remain to be controlled. [Pg.273]
