Benzoyl 2-methoxybenzoyl

Highest yields are obtained when the reaction is carried out in boiling toluene until all water and ethanol are eliminated by azeotropic distillation. Other /S-ketocarboxylic esters such as ethyl benzoyl acetate, o-methoxybenzoyl acetate and ethyl acetonedicarboxylate react similarly with aromatic amidoximes (50). [Pg.167]

Hydroxyl ions increase the rate of SN2 reactions but have little or no effect on SN1 reactions. The k0H /kHi0 ratio for benzoyl chloride in 50% water/acetone is about 600, as compared with values of 104-105 for SN2 reactions and values of 102— 103 for SN1 reactions. In 25% aqueous acetone 0h / h2o is about 104 for both 4-nitro and 4-methoxybenzoyl chloride133, but increasing the water content makes ( oH-/ H2o)4-MeO ( oh-/ h2oM N02, in agreement with the... [Pg.243]

In contrast to this demonstration of bimolecularity, Hall and Lueck82 showed the possibility of acylium ion formation from benzoyl chloride by its reaction with mercuric perchlorate. In common with dimethylcarbamyl chloride, dimethylsulphamyl and tetramethyldiamidophosphochloridate, benzoyl chloride reacted readily to form the corresponding acylium ion /i-butyl chloroformate however was inert. Kivinen138 studied the effect of mercuric chloride on the ethanolysis of 4-methoxybenzoyl chloride, benzoyl chloride and 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride and obtained the following approximate relative rates for the effect of mercuric chloride (0.30 M) in ethanol, 4-MeO, 2.91 4-H, 1.00 4-NOz, 1.03, confirming the SN2 character of the 4-nitro-... [Pg.244]

Treatment of 2-phenylthiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid with triethylamine in THF, followed by reaction with benzoyl chloride, provided A -benzoyl-2-phenylthiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid in 76% yield (Scheme 38). However, applying the same conditions to the reaction with/)-methoxybenzoyl chloride resulted in a moderate 50% yield. Application of an alternative methodology, without NEts, provided the A -benzoyl product in only 44% yield, but the A -( -MeOBz) compound in an improved 75% yield (although in only 50% de) (Scheme 38) <2002T5093>. [Pg.671]

To correlate the two series of substituted pyridines and quinolines, relative rates of alkylation were determined also with 2- and 4-substituted quinolines. The following sequence of nucleophilicity of alkyl and acyl radicals was obtained methyl < primary alkyl < acetyl < i-chlorobenzoyl < -chlorobenzoyl < m-methoxybenzoyl < benzoyl < -methylbenzoyl < -methoxybenzoyl < sec. alkyl < f-alkyl < benzyl. [Pg.41]

Interest in the photochemical generation and fate of acyl nitrenes has again been expressed. In benzoyl, p-methoxybenzoyl, and m-fluorobenzoyl azides, Curtius rearrangement of the photochemically generated acyl nitrenes to the corresponding isocyanates competes with formation of insertion products in halogen-free solvents.78 In halogenomethanes, the yields of isocyanates are... [Pg.488]

Dimethyl [a-(hydroxyimino)benzyl]phosphonate is stable in mineral acid but decomposes in formic acid containing formate with the liberation of benzonitrile, but otherwise the behaviour is different from that in boiling acetic acid when an additional product, a phosphoramidate ester, is obtained by a Beckmann rearrangement. For the oximes of the (4-methoxybenzoyl)- or (4-chlorobenzoyl)-phosphonic esters, only the phosphoramidate diester 127 is obtained, but for all the substrates examined [additionally the unsubstituted benzoyl- as well as the (4-methylbenzoyl)phosphonic derivatives], the formation of the phosphoramidate ester demonstrates a high migratory aptitude of the phosphinoyl group (Scheme 22) ... [Pg.525]

Acyl chlorides react readily with amino groups to form amides. The reactions (Figure 1) are carried out in an alkaline medium (Schotten-Baumann conditions). The use of amide derivatives for the HPLC analysis of amines has been widely studied. Clark and Wells [9] described several acyl chlorides such as p-nitrobenzoyl, p-methoxy-benzoyL p-methylbenzoyl and p-chlorobenzoyl chlorides. The spectrophotometric properties of their benzamides were investigated. The methoxybenzamides showed the most intense absorption at 252 nm, and therefore most fixed-wavelength (254 nm) UV detectors can conveniently be used for detection. The reaction of p-methoxybenzoyl chloride with some amines and the molar absorptivities of the derivatives are shown in Table I. [Pg.158]

Nifantiev and co-workers investigated the effect of acyl groups at the 0-4 position of donors on the fucosylation stereochemistry fucosylations of acceptor 121 with fucosyl donors 118—120 having p-methoxybenzoyl, benzoyl, and p-nitrobenzoyl groups, respectively, at the 0-4 position were a-selective and thus disaccharides 123 (R = Bz, p/a = 1 3.5), 124 (R = p-NOjBz, p/a = 1 2), and 125 (R = p-OMeBz, p/a = 1 5) were obtained, respectively, with an excess of a-anomers (Table 8) [73]. The a-selectivity was ascribed to the remote participation of the 4-O-acyl groups and the computational work on the difference in the total energy... [Pg.130]
