Behaviour-altering

During pregnancy produces foetal hydantoin syndrome. At higher concentration produces ataxia, vertigo, diplopia, nystagmus, behavioural alteration and mental confusion. [Pg.107]

Sulphur concretes appear well suited for use in environments corrosive to Portland cement concretes. The extensive work by the U.S. Bureau of Mines shows their material performs admirably in such environments. When used as a lining, the initial stress-strain behaviour will allow the material to adapt to the main structural element and relieve internal stresses without cracking. Corrosion resistance will be maintained by the material thereafter, even though the stress strain behaviour alters. On its own, the material retains sufficient strength to withstand typical loads involved in this type of application (eg. liquid container). Sudicrete has not been tested much in this area, although laboratory tests show similar promise. [Pg.152]

The outcome depends on the form of mercury compormd which is the toxicant and on the severity of exposure. Mild exposure to elemental, inorganic and organic mercury can be followed by a complete recovery. Death may result from a severe exposure while neurological complications such as mood and behaviour alteration, memory loss and fine tremors often remain even when patients with moderately high exposure have been removed from the source of contamination. [Pg.185]

The focus of the analysis now moves away from direct welfare comparison to consideration oftheopportunitiesthattheMAC/PSB approach can give manufacturers to behave strategically. This section analyses how a firm s behaviour alters when it attempts to protect the value of future patents that it might win, and it describes how the MAC/PSB regulation can assist the firm in achieving this objective. [Pg.214]

Studies using rodents and monkeys have provided a variety of evidence of neurobehavioural alteration induced by lead exposure. In most cases these effects suggest impairment in learning, i.e., the process of appropriately modifying one s behaviour in response to information from the environment. Such behaviour involves the ability to receive, process, and remember information in various forms. Some studies indicate behavioural alterations of a more basic type, such as delayed development of certain reflexes. Other evidence suggests changes affecting rather complex behaviour in the form of social interactions. See papers by Rice and by Cory-Schlecta (this volume) for more detailed discussions of such types of effects found in animal... [Pg.99]
