Behavioral effects functions

Psychostimulants are drugs that substantially influence cognitive and affective functioning and behaviors. Effects are increased motivational desire, agitation, heightened vigilance, euphoria, hyperactivity, and... [Pg.1038]

Behavioral effects were noted when reproductive function was assessed in male Long-Evans rats that were given trichloroethylene in com oil by gavage for 6 weeks (Zenick et al. 1984). Copulatory behavior was decreased at 1,000 ppm, and the study authors attributed this to the narcotic properties of trichloroethylene. Sperm count, motility, or morphology were not affected in these rats. The time between dosing and observation of copulatory behavior was not stated. [Pg.97]

COMMENT/QUESTION I was not relating it to psyehosis either. I am trying to put it in a functional context. Have you speeulated about the role of the supersensitive autoreceptor at that point You eould speculate early on that the subsensitivity autoreceptor favors the potentiation of the behavioral effect. But what might happen when it becomes supersensitive ... [Pg.335]

A large number of functional and electrophysiologic studies in transected animals support the conclusion that hallucinogens facilitate spinal MSRs and PSRs in both flexor and extensor muscles. Furthermore, these studies show that 5-HT antagonists effectively block the observed excitatory behavioral effects, suggesting mediation by spinal excitatory 5-HT receptors. [Pg.148]

Pheromones have been classified as a function of their effect. Those triggering immediate behavioral effects were termed releasing pheromones, while those altering slower processes of physiological or developmental nature were termed priming pheromones (Wilson and Bossert 1963). The rabbit MP has a clear releasing function but recent data also show that it has another function that cannot be termed priming in the classical sense. [Pg.309]

The comments regarding relationship to body weight under Subheading Outcome Example 4 should be applied to functional and behavioral effects. [Pg.496]

Repeat-dose neurotoxicity studies may identify behavioral effects or impaired nerve functions that can interfere with mating or maternal care. Developmental neurotoxicity studies have been conducted for specific pesticide classes, following requirements of US-EPA. If such a study is available it can be examined not only for the study-specific endpoints on the developing brain but also compared to the prenatal toxicity study and the two-generation smdy with respect to general endpoints of pre- and postnatal development, respectively. [Pg.552]
